    MB real time protection

Today about 30 minutes ago, I just started getting real time protection popups. It stating that my real time protection is off. I've tried and tried and it just wont turn on. I found a fix that suggested to run as an admin...and that didn't work. Also restarting my PC didn't work either. Any ideas at what might caused this and how to fix this. Very strange!

    :)

Can you manually update Windows Defender and then restart the computer – sometimes that will clear the issue.

The behavior you are describing may occur if another security program is installed or there are remnants of a third party antivirus program still installed.

Go to Security and Maintenance, look in 'Security' and see what program is listed under Virus Protection. Windows Defender will not be enabled and functioning properly if there is a program other than Windows Defender listed.

Have you tried the steps recommended in Problems
starting Windows Defender in Windows 8/8.1/10
to include running the software removal tools for any security software (AVG, McAfee, Norton, whatever) that may have previously been on

    Alternatively - - -

You may prefer to install a third party antimalware program (which should disable Windows Defender) and you’ll no longer be concerned with the various issues that intermittently affect Windows Defender on Win 10.

It should be turned on as soon as the computer is booted up unless disabled by the pressence of another antivirus program.

Not long after I first booted up my new Dell Inspiron (w/ Win 10 preinstalled) I uninstalled McAfee (trial version was pre-installed), rebooted, ran the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool, rebooted
again and Windows Defender was enabled, has regularly autoupdated without incident and is working okay.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17187/windows-10-protect-your-pc Note the comment in
this document published by Microsoft that Windows Defender automatically turns off if you install another antivirus app.

On Windows 8.1/10 when a third party antimalware program (such as AVG, Avast, McAfee, Norton, etc) is installed the Windows Defender (WD) program is disabled by design to prevent potential software conflicts and performance issues.

If you wish to use WD on Win 8.1/10 you should ensure that any third party antimalware program that may be on the computer (or was previously on the computer before it was upgraded to Win 10) has been uninstalled and that no remnants
remain. It is recommended that you also run the appropriate software removal tool for the third party program(s) and then reboot the computer. See List of
    anti-malware product removal tools

WD should then be enabled though you might need to restart WD in Security Center.

Thanks for the replies. No on the AV....I just have Defender and I've not done anything to it. I did just that, deactivated key, uninstalled and reinstalled. It's working as it supposed to.

  7. Hi,
According to mbam email they said mbam clean exe resets the activation count which 3 is the limit before it starts acting wonky or will show good with green checkmarks but won't reactivate or start disabling it's self.

I actually used to get that too, but it went away with the last MB patch. A clean install should fix it.
