    Hello,

I just converted my W10 disk/partitions to support UEFI (using mbr2gpt which convert an MBR disk to a GPT one)
How to convert MBR to GPT drive to switch BIOS to UEFI on Windows 10 | Windows Central

Now samsung magician shows me this:

    mbr2gpt messed with over-provisioning (SSD/Samsung Magician) [IMG]

It seems to see the unallocated over-provisioning that was previously done on the MBR disk, but is proposing to allocate over-provisioning again.

Is it because he does not really see the existing one? Do I need to do something or is it just ok like that?
How make him see that a new OP is not necessary?

    Thanks

    :)

  2. Over Provisioning on Samsung SSD (Magician)

I left 50GB of my 500GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD at the end of the memory just for over provisioning. But it seems that they are not seen because they are allocated after my Fedora install.

Any idea on how to work with this?

    Samsung SSD over provisioning

I have noticed in the Samsung Magician there is an option for Overprovisioning. The recommended size is 10%. Should I set the over provisioning? And if yes, is 10% to much?
    I currently have a Samsung 840 250GB. 10% is 25GB.

From what I read on the internet, overprovisioning should already be set on SSD's, but looking at the samsung magician, it seems none is set.

How to provision 1TB SSD for Linux from Windows

This is the first time I am both provisioning an SSD and attempting a Linux (CentOS) install.

So I have an unallocated 1TB Samsung EVO drive installed which I want to install Linux on.

I am booting into Windows 10 on my C: drive.

I've downloaded the Samsung Magician app but I can see NO options for provisioning the drive.(see picture)

I want to set up the following partitions

    • /root: 15GB
    • /swap: 8GB
    • /home: remaining space

There is also a Windows 10 Disk management application but can’t see any options for defining /root or swap provisions.

Also, assuming I get the disk provisioned and Linux installed, are these SSD optimization suggestions worth applying as well?
