Windows 10: Media Creation Tool installed 10 Pro instead of 10 Home

I was forced to "upgrade" to Windows 10 Home about 3 years ago. I've hated it since. I have been attempting to go back to Windows 7. I got back to Windows 7 and found my product key was no where to be found. My COA has been worn down and is illegible. That combined with the upcoming stop of support for Windows 7 brought me back to Windows 10.


I downloaded the Media Creation Tool to re-install Windows 10. The Media Creation Tool never gave me the option to select my version of Windows 10. It only asked for my product key, which it verified and proceeded to install Windows 10 Pro. Now I can't activate because my product key is for Windows 10 Home and I have Windows 10 Pro installed by Microsoft's tools.


MICROSOFT! HOW DO I GET BACK TO A FUNCTIONING COMPUTER?! None of your support or tools are getting me there.

Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

There is three options:
Windows 10
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

 

Windows 10 Media Creation Tool


I got bored waiting for my 10 Pro upgrade message so I am using the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to play around with installing Windows 10 Pro.

I chose the Upgrade Now option instead of creating media.

If I lose installed programs I will use my Macrium image to revert to 8.1 Pro.

Media Creation Tool for Windows 10 PRO

Where can I find a Media Creation Tool that will create Windows 10 Pro media?

The current media creation tool available here:

creates a Windows 10 Home install on my laptop.

The only reason I can think of for this behavior is that there is a Windows 8.1 Home SLIC entry in the BIOS, and it is assuming that "Home" is therefore the correct version to install. However I was running Windows 8.1 Pro (purchased separately from the
laptop) and successfully did an in-place upgrade to Windows 10 Pro before running into software problems caused by the in-place upgrade.

Bottom line - where can I find Windows 10 Pro installation media? The in-place install doesn't work for me and the current Media Creation Tool creates media that incorrectly installs Windows 10 Home.
