Media Creation Tool not working; continuosly data used by svchost.exe

    Hi,

I was just trying how Media Creation Tool is working and does it support resume or not but at first I was not able to open it but soon, it got open and I simply chosen the option to create ISO file and started the download and done the test whether it support resume or not and felt happy that it does.

However, I cancelled the download because I didn't had much data balance at this time and started doing my rest of works but I found that svchost.exe is continuosly using the data, at highest speed.

I tried restarting the computer but still, it keep taking the data. When I try to open the Media Creation Tool, it shows "Something gone wrong" (or something like this, I'm using Ubuntu at this time, so can't check) and closes when I click OK.

I am not being able to understand what's wrong with it and is it actually downloading Windows 10? Or it is something else. I've even checked whether updates are going on or not and they're turned off already, so no chance!

    Please help me!

    :)

Windows 10 update does not appear to install. Error "Something happened"

    Hi,

I tried Media Creation Tool but closed it because I didn't had much data at that moment. However, it was still taking data (SetupHost.exe). I rebooted the computer but as soon as I connect my computer to the Internet, svchost.exe start taking too much data.
Media Creation Tool not working; continuosly data used by svchost.exe :(

And when I again open Media Creation Tool (nothing show up), SetupHost.exe also start taking data-

I temporary solved the Internet usage of these two by deleting a few files made by Media Creation Tool. However, whenever I again open MCT, the same thing start happening again.

So, I tried finding direct link of ISO and got Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File). However, it is redirecting me to MCT but somehow, I got the link. So, is it the same as Media Creation Tool's ISO? And also, which one I should
download, English International or English ISO?

Ask yourself this question, "What do I want to do?"

If you want to upgrade your current OS to Windows 10, use Media Creation Tool and follow instructions to upgrade. The process is in three phases: download, analyze and keep documents and settings where poosible and then install, adjust Windows 10 settings to match previous OS settings where possible.

If you are on limited bandwith or data ceiling, then creating an .iso image from Media Creation Tool would be the choice for offline burning and installing. This can be done during 'quiet times' so one dosn't have to agonize over pausing and resuming, and a busy CPU. There should be no imperative that Windows 10 has to be installed immediately.

Some data to help you judge things better:

I used the Media Creation tool and it pulled about 4 gbytes of data total to create the bootable media- in my case a USB device with about 3.1gbytes of Windows 10 install files was created.

There will be multiple streams of data being pulled because some of the data must be massaged after being downloaded before being put on the media you are targeting, while other data can just be pushed directly to your media device.

The time it will take to do it all depends on 2 things: the speed of your internet AND the type of media device you are using. For example, creating an USB 2.0 based flash drive takes alot longer than a USB 3.0 based flash drive.

Media Creation Tool not working; continuosly data used by svchost.exe

    Thanks Windowz10 for replying. *Smile

Actually, the issue isn't the way to download. The issue is- automatic data used by svchost.exe and SetupHosts.exe. Please read the question properly and sorry if you couldn't understand the issue.

By the way, if you can't understand what is my issue than please read this-

    1. I downloaded and opened Media Creation Tool.
    2. I checked whether it supports resume and closed it. (I know it's my mistake *Sad )
    3. I found that svchost.exe is taking lots of data, continuously!
    4. I restarted my PC several time but it didn't helped me and whenever I connect to the Internet, it again start taking data.
    5. When I open MediaCreationTool.exe, even SetupHost.exe start taking data.

PS- I fixed this temporary by deleting a few files of the Media Creation Tool and it stopped downloading. However, when I again open it, the same thing start happening again.
