Windows 10: Media Creation Tool USB Will Not Install Home Edition

Made a USB installer from the Media Creation Tool. It doesn't give you an option for which version of Windows 10. It just says "Windows 10" and doesn't let you choose anything. What a useless dropdown box that was.I have two nearly identical computers from the hardware to the software. This is the first time this has ever happened.First it gave the **** error that it couldn't identify a product key. So much for everyone saying it doesn't need one. How to create an UNACTIVATED Windows 10 installation USB flash drive using the new Media Creation Tool v1803??

I want to note also that the Media Creation Tool didn't give me the option to select the Edition of Windows 10 at the step you can choose the Language, Edition and Architecture. The only thing that was in the list was only the "Windows 10" option, not other
editions...

So, is this a BUG of Media Creation Tool or I have misunderstood something? Is this reasonable?

Also is it reasonable when you install Windows (by USB Flsah drive created with Media Creation Tool) to be activated on its own after installation finishes??

Media Creation Tool USB Will Not Install Home Edition

First it gave the **** error that it couldn't identify a product key. So much for everyone saying it doesn't need one. I have to creation a PID every goddamn time I reinstall Windows since Windows 10 became a thing. As per this Windows article. It goes in the root directory of the installation media.

PID.txt Format

The PID.txt file contains the product key for the edition of Windows that you are installing.

The PID.txt file has the following format:

Where XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX is the product key.

Then it gave the **** error "could not identify the <Product Key> in the unattend file". The unattend file located on a CD in the CD drive.

Third time was the charm when trying to install Windows 10 Home. I select Home in the installation screens every single time. It still installs Pro. I had to create an EI.cfg file. It goes in the Source folder in the installation media.

EI.cfg Format

The EI.cfg file specifies the values for the edition ID, the channel, and the volume license.

The EI.cfg file has the following format:

• {Edition ID} must be a valid Windows Edition ID, for example, Core. To get the current EditionID:
  
  • From a WIM file, use DISM /Get-ImageInfo and specify the index number or name of an image in the WIM:

   If you don't specify a name or an index number, the output won't include the Edition ID.

I'm tired of being told I need to connect to my organization and that my product key is invalid. This is for posterity (mostly myself the next time I have to deal with this garbage) and to rip whatever devs at Microsoft thought their installation media needed to be updated to break it even more than it was already broken. It's been 8 years.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD FIX THE ISSUES IT ALREADY HAS BEFORE ADDING MORE PROBLEMS.


The only thing I want is for this entire post to be made unnecessary by having the Media Creation Tool to actually do it's job. I've been at this for 8 hours. I should bill you for my time if Microsoft fails to use this information to correct the errors in their software.
