Windows 10: Media pause keys bugging?

My shift and ctrl keys Pause the video in the background whenever I click them. I already have media keys on my laptop, which are f7 to f11, and they work perfectly fine. But using shift or ctrl pauses the video? This pauses audio for spotify, youtube, and any other media app, and it can play it again. It also has issues when I play a game. For example, one of the games I use has *shiftlock* set as ctrl, and run set as shift, and when i click shift, it doesnt let me click ctrl. I need to unpress shift to be able to click ctrl. It also messes with other ingame hotkeys. Like, when I click shift

Pausing media in browser mutes all bluetooth audio

This is a bug in how Windows handles media sessions--it can be triggered by any browser. This has been reported and locked before:

• Redirecting
  
• Redirecting
  

The workaround (described in the first link) is just to disable the media controls on your bluetooth device by turning off that feature in the browser that is playing media, or to disconnect and reconnect your bluetooth device after every pause. Which means the feature just doesn't work.

I'm not looking for another workaround here (it's known), I just want to contribute to the push for this to be escalated as the bug that it is.

 

Play/Pause and stop media keys not working

Just wanted to reply and say I have been having the same issues for a few weeks now. My play pause media key stopped working, but volume controls and forward/back song buttons all work. Could it be a windows update that caused this issue?. According to a different Thread i was reading Microsoft answers pause not working It could be an issue with discord if you have discord installed. Playing some media with discord is breaking the play pause button. You need to restart discord to fix it

Hi Martijn, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

If you have a browser open, maybe it is hijacking the media keys that's why it doesn't work on Spotify and VLC. Try to close them and see if it works.

If not, try to set it to disable on your browsers and see if it would make a difference.

Enter this if you have Chrome:

chrome://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling

If you have Edge:

edge://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling

If still not working, try the following

Close all apps before performing the below steps.

- Press the Windows key + R, type Services.msc and hit Enter.

- Then, locate for Human Interface Device Service from the list and look for the status of this service whether the service is started or stopped.

- If the service is stopped, then click on the Human Interface Device Service and click on Start.

- If the service is already started, then click on Restart to restart the service.

- Relaunch the Spotify/VLC and see if the media key would work
