    Media Player Codecs

I have been able to play videos usingthe Media Player NOT windows media player, just, Media Player of captured game footage up until recently. I now receive a codec error. I have always been able to play videos through the Media Player again, just "Media Player", NOT windows media player. Everything on Google is a fix for windows media player but I tried watching the clips through windows media player as well and get the same codec error. All the fixes for Windows media player say to turn on automatic updates in the player tab but when I open the player tab there is no option to turn on au

  3. windows media player - codec error

The video is an AVHDC in a MTS format and Windows Media Player is giving an error that the codecs are not available. I have followed the help steps until it says to click the box in tools>options>player. It says to click the box for however, my windows media
player does not have that box available to click.

I don't want to have to download the codecs myself. Has anyone else resolved this problem in another way?

Windows Media Player missing codec code 0x887a0004

    Hello, Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Thanks for your feedback, The error message you are receiving indicates that the required codec to play the video is missing. You can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

    1. Install a codec pack: You can download and install a codec pack to add the missing codec to your system.

2.Use a different media player: If the above steps do not work, you can try using a different media player such as Movie and TV or Media Player Classic.

I hope this helps resolve the issue. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
