Windows 10: Media Player does not recognise CDA files until a reboot - W10

Hi folks,

I am converting my old vinyl via an Ion turntable. This saves in wav format. I then burn these to a cd, using Ashampoo (as I can never get Media Player to burn without error messages).

Although Media Player opens, nothing plays. If I open the cd it is all cda files, with a date of 1995!

A friend suggested a restart, which solved the problem - the cd played fine. But I then burnt another cd and this also failed to play until I did a restart again.

HELP..!

.cda file not getting detected on Windows Media Player

I understand that .CDA file are not getting detected on Windows Media Player. We will assist you to resolve the issue.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps to resolves the issue.

• Press Windows Key + X and choose Control Panel.
• Choose "Default Programs" link from the
  Control Panel. When the new window opens, click on the "Associate a file type or protocol with a program" option.
• Scroll down on the list until you find the ".cda" file extension. Highlight the file type by clicking it once.
• Choose "Change program." link in the top left corner of the screen. Wait for Windows to generate a list of programs compatible with the CDA file extension and open a new window.
• Highlight Windows Media Player in the program list window and click the "OK" button.
• Click the "Close" button after the list refreshes.

Cannot play audio CD from Win Media Player

We suggest you try to play the .cda files on another PC that has a Windows Media Player.

In the mean time, kindly try the troubleshooting steps below:

• Type Default Programs in the search bar.
• Click Default Programs under Best match.
• On the pop-up window, click Associate a file type or a protocol with a program.
• Under Name tab, look for .cda, and check if Windows Media Player is listed
  Current Default program.
• If not, select .cda then click Change program..., and select
  Windows Media Player.

If Windows Media Player is the default program for .cda files, follow the steps below:

• Type Troubleshooting in the search bar.
• On the pop-up window, click Hardware and Sound.
• Click Windows Media Player DVD.
• Follow the on-screen prompt to run the troubleshooter.
