So I was downloading a collection of Operating System Sounds The OS Sound Kit 1.2, and then, I tried to open it with the Media Player, but it didn't work. The EXACT error message is right here:We can't open Global A Button Select. It's encoded in i format which isn't supported.0xC00D5212Learn more about codecs Send feedbackhttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/codecs-in-media-player-d5c2cdcd-83a2-4805-abb0-c6888138e456 This help topic didn't include anything about the i format. It only includes things about MPEG-1, MPEG-2 audio, Advanced Audio Coding AAC, M4A, Free Lossless Au

  2. WMP Legacy registers my song as something different

    Hello, Od Siderokastritis

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with WMP Legacy. It sounds like the song metadata is not being updated correctly by the player. Here are some possible solutions:

    • Make sure that you have enabled the option to write media information changes to files in WMP Legacy. You can do this by going to Tools > Options > Library and checking the box. Then, you can use Tools > Apply media information changes to force WMP Legacy to write the changes to the file immediately.
    • Check if the song file is part of your Music library in WMP Legacy. If not, try adding it and reopening the player.
    • Delete any hidden files named AlbumArtSmall.jpg or Folder.jpg in the folder where the song file is stored. These files may contain incorrect album art or metadata that WMP Legacy reads instead of the file itself. You may need to show hidden items first: View hidden files and folders in Windows - Microsoft Support.
    • Clear the cache of WMP Legacy as suggested here: On Windows Media Player Legacy, new machine with Windows 11 - Microsoft Community. You might have to add your songs or playlist back to WMP. so create a backup of the “Media Player” folder in advance.
If none of these works, you may need to try a different media player like the new Media Player: Windows Media Player - Microsoft Store Apps, as Windows Media Player won't be updated anymore, making it impossible to fix any possible bugs and glitches.

Do not hesitate to inform me if you have any further concerns.

    Best regards

  3. window media player

I cannot play videos using Window Media Player, which opened fine in the recent past, but I can play play audio files. I get the following message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

I have taken the following steps:

    1. Removed and reinstalled WMP using Windows features.

    2. updated the AMD chip driver using Device Manager.

After this step WMP worked briefly but then got two error messages-Load MM Driver stopped working and Catalyst Control Center stopped working. At this time all video players became inop.

    3. Downloaded and ran AMD Radeon HD6520G and Driver Auto-Detect program which restored other video players(123, VLC) but did not help WMP.

    4. Ran a Codec Tweak Tool

None of this helped. The report generated by the AMD program listed all of the video codecs for WMP and although there are a number of variations i.e. MPG4, MP42, MP4s, etc. there is no simple MP4 listed. Is this a problem and if so how do I add a one-shot
    codec for MP4 only

Media Player New, not legacy WMP. i Codec is not supported.

    Problem with Windows Media Player

Is it WMP, or the shark codecs?

Uninstall the codecs, for good measure remove and reinstate WMP. Now try WMP without the codecs installed, how does it behave?

Windows 10 should have native support for mkv, so you shouldn't need the codec pack.
