Windows 10: media player shows "unknown artist" after sync

hello. i am trying to sync songs using media player to my phone and have done so for more than a decade. recently my phone and media player shows unknow artist on the phone after the sync. so now the android shows all the files as unknow artist and will not sort them properly. all the files i synced back in june are fine. is there a recent update that has messed this up?? can it be fixed?

Media Player - Unknown Artist

Hello all,

I have a VZW Imagio that I absolutely love. I am trying to sync music from Winamp 5.56 on a Win7 PC to this smartphone. When I send the music to my SD card I get alot of songs that come up in the mobile media player that say unknown artist. I have made sure
the Artist label and Album Artist label in Winamp are populated correctly but still no go. Can anyone help with this, and what should I be looking for?

I have tried this but does not work for me.

Looks like Media Player can not handle WAV files.

I have noticed that in most MP3 files recognise correctly artists.

However, all WAV files (vast majority of my collection) are dumpud under Unknown artists.

Really frustrating. That beg the question why Microsoft retired Groovy, a perfectly good application and replace it with something that does not work.

Any ather suggestion?

 

Groove Shows Unknown Artist & Unknown Album


I solved it by doing the following! I'm not sure which step cracked the problem.

1. Set indexing to index the content of my music files by right clicking on the top level folder, setting the option and applying to all files and sub-folders
2. Rebuilt the index via the Control Panel Indexing options
3. Deleted the folders watched in Groove
4. Deleted the Groove database at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneMusic_<random>\LocalState\Database
5. Started Groove
6. Reassigned the folders to watch

All songs now appear with the right artist & album but some album art was missing in Groove and Media Player despite being displayed correctly in iTunes. I manually updated the missing album art in Media Player and Groove then synchronised to match the Media Player album art.
