Windows 10: media player that supports mpeg-2 and m2ts codecs

Dear Sir,



I have been searching a long time for a video player …

Let me explain briefly. I have a Sony Entertainment program on my pc called PlayMemories home. I store a lot of home photos and videos on this storage. Quite nice. I used to make annual dvd’s for my family. Not any more.



Last spring I purchased a WD Home Duo wi-fi unit (8 TB). The unit backs up all files. This will also enable me to have my relatives download the My Cloud app to their laptop device and then pick/open a date and a particular video file they want to see. Now here is the issue. My son has downloaded the My Cloud app nicely. It opens okay to the video files. You can literally see the files, but you are NOT able to open, play and view it. The codecs won’t allow the video and audio to play. It says the video and audio is not supported (with the proper codecs).



I need a player that will make that transition. The two types of video codecs I have are mpeg-2 and m2ts.



I guess the two questions I have are … is there a decent player? Most of the reviews of players from the Microsoft Store are all very poor Do you have a recommendation? Obviously I would prefer a free download.

mpeg-2 video support for windows 10 media player

i want to play a dvd video that is mpeg-2 format. does media player on windows 10 support this format. if not where is there a free decoder for mpeg-2 video format?

 

Window Media Player can't play TS file

Windows Media Player 12 supports MPEG-2 TS (.m2ts) video files which are used for multiplexing audio, video, and other streams. If you installed a codec to play the file but still unable to play it, it could be that the package was not installed correctly.
Kindly uninstall the package and reinstall it, then see if you are now able to play the file. For more information about the file types that are supported by Windows Media Player, kindly see this

mpeg-2 video support for windows 10 media player

I dont know why Microsoft not give support for DVD/Bluray format support to Windows 10 so UWP apps can support it so still you need to use old Win32 software and VLC works fine.
