Windows 10: MediaCreationTool

Hi,
I downloaded this client and it started to download the windows, after its finished i burn the ISO on the DVD and tried to upgrade my windows 8.1 then I got this error : use the other installation disc that says 64 bit......
i`m sure that i downloaded 64 bit version.
pls help me on this problem

Step 1: download Windows 10 1709 from the following link:

TechBench by WZT (v4.1.1)

Choose the following:

- Windows Final

- Windows 10, version 1709

- Windows 10 Pro + Home

- English

- x64 (64 bit) x32 (32 bit)

Step 2: create a bootable copy

is there any other method of downloading windows 10 other than using the MediaCreationTool? I have been battling with this for two days and it is not working.

 

What is the size of the ISO file you created? Is it Win 10 Home or Win 10 Pro?
My Pro 64 bit is 3,255,232KB. Downloading Home X64 now to check the size.

 

stupid me. looks like when u download the 64bit client u have to select 64bit version again! in the third section.

 

Yes, the first 32bit 64 bit choice is based on what OS your going to run the MCT on, 32 bit or 64 bit. Then you decide if you want to download the 32 bit Windows 10 or 64 bit windows 10 ISO. That's caught a few people out.

 

After waiting in vain for days for Windows to be offered to me as a download to upgrade my current Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit laptop, I have given up. My OS started off as Win 7, which I then upgraded to Win 8, and subsequently Win 8.1

Long ago I requested the update, and had the "Get Windows 10" icon in my taskbar, and assumed that I would be notified when the update became available to eligible users in South Africa.

But I'm still waiting for MS to notify me when I can get Win 10

In desperation I downloaded (..using the Win media creation tool..) and then burned the download to a DVD, and I now have the created Win 10 ISO on the DVD.

But what should I do now? How do I use the ISO to install Win 10. Below is a screenshot of the properties of the ISO I burned to DVD

I see it lists the file system as "UDF" I have no idea what that is.

 

Open the DVD in Windows Explorer and run setup.exe from its root directory.

UDF stands for Universal Disc Format - a filesystem format used in all DVDs and some CDs. You should't really bother to care as long as it works.

 

Hate to chime in here but I was trying to make a ISO disc for Windows 10 but the ISO is bigger then my DVD. Any ideas?

 

Two options: take a double-layer DVD or make a bootable USB out of the ISO (using Rufus for example). I'd do the latter

wow, the iso created by the mediatool is 5.9gb but the one from the site (from the tutorials on the forums) are only 3.8
I assume the media one is updates aswell?

 

If you're using a genuine windows 7 or 8/8.1, you can upgrade it directly inside your windows. First, you need to download the correct windows 10 ISO image( depends on your current windows). You can get link in here. Then, you need a program which can open and extract ISO file( I recommend the open source program: 7zip). Third, extract this ISO file to a partition differs from the partition that you suppose to install windows 10 to. Wait a few minutes for it to finish and open up that folder and double click on setup.exe file. From now on, you just have to click OK and next to complete the upgrade process. Good luck.
