Windows 10: Meet OneClip, Microsoft's cross-platform universal clipboard

OneClip is an internal, cross-platform app developed by Microsoft that wants to be a universal clipboard for all of your devices. Though not yet publicly released, the app runs on Windows 10 desktop and mobile, Android and iOS.

Note taking apps like OneNote and Evernote typically offer some functionality when it comes to quickly organizing screenshots, copied text and so on. But OneClip takes that concept and runs with it, across all platforms, with near instantaneous syncing.

Once you install OneClip on a device, like a Windows 10 PC, the app starts to collect everything you copy to your clipboard. Images, text, screenshots, links and so on, all get collected and organized by time and date, device, app and so forth. Then they get displayed in a neat easy to use interface, from where users can then share the content, pin it as important, or simply delete it.

You can also have all of your notes, pins, screenshots and so on move around with you on any device, by registering devices with a code issued when you launch the app. For example, you can have your desktop, laptop and iPhone all synced together so all of the display the same saved content. In fact this behavior wasisbaked into the app from the start as the launch notes explain:

With Oneclip, it’s easy to get back to the stuff you’ve seen and used. It might be a photo you took, a screenshot you made, a phone number or address you copied on your PC (and really really need now while you’re on the run) or just an important piece of text. Metro design

Thanks for the reply! But my question mostly referred to the issue of cross platform development, which basically means a single universal app per all platforms. Therefore, if the app is designed in Metro style is it ok to use it on non-windows OS?

If the app was for windows based OS only then I presume it's fine, but what about using metro style app on the other platforms?

Windows phone acceptance at universties in the US

What is the reason why so many university campuses in the US do not support the Windows phone? Universities support Apple and Androids.

At the time of writing this question it may seem that the question is moot as there is widespread acceptance of the idea Microsoft as a business may not wish to support the Window phone platform.

On the other hand, Microsoft phone is a great platform. The non-adoption of the Windows phone platform at university and college IT systems is a loss. What were the reasons why universities and colleges never supported the Windows phone?

Looks like yesterday's leak of Microsoft's new OneClip apps and service did not go over well with Redmond. The unannounced data sharing service lets you pass photos, screenshots and text from your phone to PC to whatever device. It seemed to be an early hit, but the company was not yet ready to show it off.

This morning, however, Microsoft has evidently killed the leaked apps on the backend. Users who had paired devices will now find the software unpaired with their phones. Even more, if you try to generate a pairing code, nothing happens.
