Mega annoying fault (all Windows not just W10)

    Hi there

I seem to have a really annoying fault on ANY windows OS (doesn't happen on Linux).

Sometimes the HDD's seem to be "quiesced" and if say I use Windows explorer it takes (or seems to take) ages for the program to work (or any other application). I can hear HDD's starting up and see the busy light for a while.

Once the HDD's are running then everything is fine.

I've tried every conceivable setting in Power options but I can't seem to stop this whole process. I just want the HDD's to be running 100% of the time until I power off the machine.

Linux doesn't give me that problem so it's obviously some setting in Windows I've missed.

Note this happens on W7 / W8.1 and W10 so not a specific complaint with W10.

Sometimes I deliberately leave a machine for say 45 mins /1hr and go away to do something else - loads of people do - I'm sure they don't all have the HDD delays when they come back again to their machine.

The OS is on an SSD - but it's when I want to access the HDD's that I see the effect. It's only on a REAL machine with ASUS Mobo.

Laptop even with 3 or 4 large capacity external USB drives is fine.

    Cheers
    jimbo

    :)

  2. W10 Screensaver photos in 4;3 size instead of widescreen

W10. Screensaver pictures don't fill the screen. Black band at either side. What can be done? Same with Photos or W Live Photo Gallery (at least this old fashioned programme doesn't have the annoying fault of ' an error is stopping this screensaver from
    working'

Other posts are too old or refer to different Windows or just don't answer the question!!

I'm a celebrity, get me out of here!

  3. Font size keeps jumping around - how do I freeze the setting once and for all?

Aside from the instructions to get to the fix it point being not quite right - must have been W8 instructions, not W10, when I did find the magnifier and did set it to off that worked - for a time. However, it's back and the magnifier is set to off. Looking
at the Chrome community help and your help, none of the instructions quite match what I can and cannot do. So I'm thinking it's a W10 issue using Chrome with a HP touchpad hypersensitivity. Why can't I just freeze the size to 100% and leave it at that? But
no, there are so many wrinkles. W10 needs to have a freeze or lock in option because all of the other choices are grayed out - not much help there.

It used to be if I chose to operate a mouse the touchpad was disabled - now it remains active which can be quite annoying. I don't know whose fault that is - HP or W10.

    I dual boot win7/win8.1/win10

    Hi there

Thanks -- I had to switch to High Performance --that seems to have done the trick. It was a really annoying fault waiting for HDD's to spin up --especially with 4 HDD's in a 6TB storage space !!!. I was using Balanced and it didn't seem to make any difference.

You need to set 0 secs to get the HDD's to never turn off.

    SSD's of course are fine.

    Cheers
