    Memory Leak in svchost.exe (RPCSS)

I bought my laptop in January 2015, and got used to Windows 8.1. I have liked Win10 ever since I upgraded late last year. I had some minimal trouble in the "migration", which was related to the substituted touchpad driver, but I digress. I believe my problem corresponds in some aspect with svchost.exe (RPCSS). I used process explorer (by SysInternals) to observe the correlation between my computer's freezing up at regular intervals of 1-2 minutes, and each freezing event lasting for increasingly longer periods of over 73 seconds (directly correlating to the timing of each CPU peak on the svchost.exe performance graph. The memory usage of this component is observed to grow to increasingly higher levels as well (over 166 Mb). During the freezing periods, the CPU usage of this component goes to 23-26% each time. Immediately after a computer restart, the duration of the freezing is hardly noticeable, but eventually builds to intolerable levels. ("Gradually" rather than "eventually" may be the more appropriate adverb, because the duration may not be associated with reported data in monitored system events.)

In the process of tracking the possible causes of this problem, I have run malwarebytes, which reports no problems. I cannot relate the first instance of this problem to any particular software installation or Windows update. I have also started in Windows Safe Mode, which provides no freezes. The subsequent reboot in normal mode reveals the persistence of the problem.

Please advise if this is a known issue or if there is any basis for a suspect cause. Please also advise if there are further methods to observe processes, system events, etc., to isolate the cause of the issue. Please limit responses so that they do not include try-fixes or hit-or-miss solution-attempts, as these often waste time, create more problems, or exacerbate existing problems. Please feel free to direct me to a post that instructs how to isolate such a problem to find the source. Thank you in advance for any assistance that you provide.

    :)

This problem persists, and at this point any feedback or comment will be appreciated. If a moderator has input, that is welcomed, too. Any MSCE gurus? Hope everyone has a great day!

Here's an illustration of service's performance graph.

Each of the green peaks is a point at which Windows freezes.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the memory usage grows to over 250MB. When I'm not having the issue, the memory that Process Explorer reports as being used by this process is around 8-10 MB.

This problem persists. Does anyone know whether Microsoft's marking it as an old thread means that everyone at Microsoft doesn't care about the issue?

I believe I have found at least part of the problem. I killed 3 rundll.exe processes related to some HP printer software, and the memory usage went down from 90 Mb to around 30. Strange that yesterday, the memory usage went to over 500 Mb with no real hiccups in the system's responsiveness. The 30 Mb now is still above normal, but at least now I'm making some progress in resolving this issue.

I'm going to uninstall the HP software, which I installed before the Windows 10 upgrade. Maybe I'll re-install.

If anyone is interested, the HP software is installed for two HP printers. One is a 3500 and the other is a 6500. Don't get me started on how disgusting these printers can be.

Merry Christmas, all you Jesus fans.
