Windows 10: Merge/transfer accounts

    Merge/transfer accounts


    Hi, I ideally want to link my Microsoft accounts, I had one for Xbox then ended up making a new one when buying MS 10 a while back. Can I merge these as every time I open Xbox app on PC says not linked and need to change which is just a bit of a pain, not end of the world just a hassle could do without.

    If not can I transfer the licence to the Xbox account and use that account as my PC one? Ideally don't want to have to wipe and start again as I've done it several times installing new PC this last couple months.

    Don't think there is particularly anything I need on PC MS"account" other than the licence but if there is a possibility of checking what's linked would be nice to know too.


    Edit: Or even, if it's easier to make the app just ignore the PC account and just only use Xbox account option that I can't seem to find, always defaults when I open it again.

    Remove account

    I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
    To delete an account, follow these steps:
    1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
    2. Type the following command and press Enter. Replace test with the name of your sister's account. Code:

    Multiple questions about installing - transfer accounts etc.

    According to you, the accounts were Windows built-in admin, a local admin and standard user. None of them needs to be moved.

    The built-in admin account, as the name says, will be there when you boot the laptop first time. It is disabled by default, you just need to enable it. For two other accounts, simply create same accounts on laptop.


    Attach the HDD to laptop using an external USB enclosure, copy contents of data folders to respective folders on laptop.


    You mentioned that the desktop accounts were / are local accounts, not Microsoft accounts. See the options to get Pro here:
    If you can still access Windows on desktop, boot it up, make it a Microsoft account and link license to that MS account. Tutorials:

    merging two Microsoft accounts is not possible.

    The closest thing to achieve what you want is to link another account. Which will give you option to access email of added account through main account. As far as data migration is concerned I believe you would need to do it manually.

    • transfer, download, from one account,
    • upload to another,
    • use one account as primary,
    • add another one as linked for the purpose of email,
    Hope Microsoft will consider offering functionality for this.
