I'm trying to do something with the mini partition wizard that is raved about on this site.

The FACTORY IMAGE D above is useless to my computer now that I have been on Windows 10 Home (latest build) and Windows 10 so graciously dropped a 449MB Recovery Partition right between my partition boot drive C and the original Recovery Environment FACTORY IMAGE D, which I don't need anymore.

I'm grateful to of had a current system image backup (always do) because when I deleted FACTORY IMAGE D, it became un-allocated space. I expected that, so no problem there. What I didn't expect is when I formatted the partition and made it NTFS letter drive B, I thought when I used the "Align all partitions feature, that it would put the partition adjacent to partition C but the program states that all partitions are aligned already.

So now I can't use the "Merge" feature in the mini partition tool to add the 35.23 GB of usable drive to my C partition.

When I dug deeper, I found that the Recovery environment that Windows 10 created and dropped (graciously) in the middle of my two partitions is not assigned a drive letter, but rather some signature code that makes it unique to the current OS.

The reason you see my FACTORY IMAGE in my disk management screenshot is because I had to re-image my computer because the mini partition tool didn't do a proper reboot after another operation I was performing earlier. I got that problem straightened out finally.

So in order for me to add that 35.23 GB of usable disk space to my C partition, do I have to first delete FACTORY IMAGE D and leave it un-allocated when I make a system image backup?

In other words, will the system image tool in Control Panel detect un-allocated space and convert it to a healthy primary partition adjacent to my C partition so that I can finally merge them together with the mini partition tool?

What am I missing here??? Its got to be something simple and it's driving me nuts.

    :)

ESD USB (EMerging partitions. :) Query

Which partition did you select when clicking 'Merge', try selecting the other partition and then click 'Merge'

If that does not work, create a partition on the unallocated space, then select that partition ans click 'Merge' . . .

The two partitions Must be next to each other to merge them. The recovery partition is in between the C: drive and the unallocated partition. First you will have to merge the unallocated partition with the recovery partition and then you should be able to
merge the new merged partitions with your C: partition to make one Big partition. You might want to backup anything you have on your Recovery partition first and then format it. Don't know what program your using to do this but Aomie Partition Assistant is
a good one and it's Free from the link below.

Download Magic Free Partition Manager Software - AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard

    Merging partitions.

Delete drive d so it's free space then move recovery to the right so you have the free space after c then expand c to fill the space job done you don't need to merge anything

Do I have to format the un-allocated space before I claim it and do I have to assign it a drive letter?

If you want to enlarge C: drive, then just resize it to maximum possible size. If you wanted another drive, well you have had it before... (then you make new partition and format it...)

Another reason I was previously having trouble was because my computers Disk Management was naming the partition differently than the mini partition wizard tools' interface was:

Anyway, I appreciate the help again from both of you. This is becoming my favorite site to get straight answers.
