    Metadata staging failed

These errors have started building up with every reboot.. What's going on? Never seen them in W764? But now after upgrading to W10 64..

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

It would be grateful if you can reply to this question in order to assist you further:

    1. When and where exactly are you getting this error?

    2. Have you recently made any changes on your computer, prior to the issue?

    3. Are you getting any error message or code while using Windows and running any application?

    4. Is there any Windows Update/driver which has been failed recently?

Note: To know the KB numbers of the failing updates, follow the underlying steps:

    • Press Windows + C, to open charms bar.

    • In the search box, type
      Update
, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update.

    • In the left pane, click
      View update history
      .
As of now, I recommend you to go through following methods:

Method 1: Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

I suggest you to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Follow these steps to run Windows Update
    troubleshooter:

    • Press Windows key + W and type
      troubleshooting.

    • Select Troubleshooting.

    • Select View all on the top left corner.

    • Click Windows Update troubleshooter.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

    • Check if issue persists.
    Method 2

I suggest you to check if the services responsible for Windows update is running. Refer to these steps:

    • Press Windows key +R, type “services.msc

    • Locate the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer
and the Windows Update Services and check if it is running.

    • If not, right click on the service and click start to start the service.
Method 3: Place the computer in Clean Boot and then install the updates

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Refer the article below to perform clean boot:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please refer to the section:
How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot
of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue. Steps applies to Windows 10 as well.

Disclaimer: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install
a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. You must log on to the computer as an administrator to be able to perform a clean boot. Your
computer may temporarily lose some functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you start the computer normally, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or experience the original behavior if the problem still exists.
If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps.

Hope this will fix the issue, if not let us know with the updated status and we will be happy to assist you further.

    Thank you.

    Metadata staging failed

Ok I took the plunge and followed Brink's instructions for a full re-install of Windows 10 64, the drive was formatted and a fresh copy was installed using a USB drive and my event viewer is choc full of errors that really have me worried.

The system occasionally freezes/hangs and I have to hard reset it to reboot.

here's an example of what's in the event viewer:

    Metadata staging failed [IMG]

This is an awful lot of errors for the first day of a fresh install, I was up very late last night/this morning to get this far, but things don't seem to have improved at all.

    Please can anyone help me?

I have the same problem. Errors appear in following order:

The Network List Manager reports no connectivity to the internet.
A connection to the Windows Update service could not be established.
The Network List Manager reports no connectivity to the internet.
A connection to the Windows Metadata and Internet Services (WMIS) could not be established.
Metadata staging failed, result={00000000-0000-0000-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF} for container '0x80070490'

I think all these errors are to be seen as one. For some reason the system reports no internet connection, and then rest of errors appears.

There is an option in Group Policy to tell windows to wait for internet before logon:
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon
"Always wait for network at computer startup and logon"
However that doesn't work here. The error persists.

    So, any ideas?

Those links that are in EightForums don't work....have tried and tried but get errors...there must've been a change to the url site...i remember one time using howtogeek as the goto site for event id errors. has anyone got a new link to put in the registry file?

Still working for me, however here is what is said at the link shown in case you can't get to it:

"I have the solution for the problem.
Searches on regedit for the following entry: DeviceMetadataServiceURL
There you change the URL in the following: http://dmd.metaservices.microsoft.com/dms/metadata.svc
after you have closed the editor is saved the change.
Now the problem is solved and it will also re-loaded device information."

I don't get it why Microsoft doesn't fix those small things... it's really annoying.
Seriously, I have more aggravation with Win10 than I ever had with Win7, even at the beginning.

That link when clicked gives a blank page on my end. From what I understand it is a broken link therefore the 131 errors.

after browsing through my event log after some unexpected freeze ups it would seem this error is still hopping around, the temp fix to changed the registry entry to http://dmd.metaservices.microsoft.com/dms/metadata.svc solved this error problem but now i am introduced with a new item that appeared after making this change, when typing cmd into the start menu i am greeted with something called Jack Command, i need the command prompt to possibly resolve a different error occurring in the even log concerning - Unable to start a DCOM Server: Microsoft.XboxApp.AppXsw8tt30ns5jahngp2m8d833e3fk9tsa4.mca

instead of the usual cmd where you can right click for an elevated command prompt. as anyone else seen this? is this new? now that the system is able to communicate with the update servers correctly.

i have scanned my pc for infections using the following scanners -

    RougeKiller
    TDSSKiller
    Gmer
    mbar
    mbam
    windows defender
    HitmanPro
    eset
    Emsisoft Emergency Kit
    Sophos

none of these scans returned any infections ( i am a very careful and deliberate about my pc's security )
