Metered Connection not preventing Windows from updating

I use windows 10 home with metered connection trick but if you downloaded and installed W10 Upgrade Assistant I belive that it will download new version anyway. I'm not sure though.

You can get Group Policy Editor in W10 Home but I never used it to configure Windows Updates. Maybe the settings stick and maybe they don't. I've found that it's hit and miss in Home (at least it was in Windows 7 Home)

For control over updates I use WUMT Wrapper Script. See this post by the author. Check the first post in the thread too.

Using 10 Pro here (1703), but also on a very metered satellite connection with Windows settings to match (CBB, 365 days feature delay, 30 day quality update delay). Wired and wireless are set as metered. I even uncheck/check "pause updates" daily.

In reference to previous posts in this thread, I have been a daily reader of AskWoody for a few years. I have been using Windows Update Blocker (one of tools included with WUMT Wrapper Script mentioned above), but even that didn't stop the update(s?) today. 700MB of WU downloading later unbeknownst to me, my ISP cuts me off until tomorrow. Checking WUB showed it was reset to allow updates.

I did learn something from this though, don't skimp, run the WUMT script. It takes everything in there to stop updates; Windows update settings, wushowhide, and WindowsUpdateBlocker are not enough. Windows 10 updating is a hefty juggernaut.

Posted this from a mobile hotspot since Windows ate my home internet allowance. The housemates on Windows 7 are not happy.

That is highly likely, The Update Assistant may well have been installed by the windows update KB4023814 which applies to all versions up to and including 1703.

KB4023814 Windows 10 display notification to install latest version

This update cannot be uninstalled, but its effects can be undone. The post @Callender linked to tells you how.

Obviously can't speak for OP, but that fix won't work for me.
I do have C:\WINDOWS\UpdateAssistantV2 with Windows10Upgrade.exe inside, but that is the end of similarities. There is no "C:\Windows10Upgrade" folder. There is "\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator" in task scheduler, but no"UpdateAssistant" or "UpdateAssistantCalendarRun" inside. There is no "Upgrade Advisor to Windows 10" to uninstall.

I downloaded all the KB's manually and installed them, now fully up to date with 1703. I also downloaded 1709 ISO and burned it to DVD. I ran WUMT Wrapper Script afterwards to block any more updates until April's patch Tuesday or 1803 release, whichever comes first and looks safest.

Thanks to my mobile phone "unlimited data" plan, downloading cumulative updates and even upgrade ISO files is no problem when done straight to the phone. Using the satellite ISP or mobile phone hotspot for updates is when being truly metered hurts.

    Good luck jmbtexas4.
