Windows 10: Mic drivers stopped working (maybe peace APO???)

Hi I don't know if this is the right sub but this seems to be a windows problem.

Ok so I have the HyperX Cloud 2 headset and it works well but the default volume is really loud, like at 30% it's complete earrape. I installed Equalizer APO and lowered the volume by -23 decibels and then added peace APO which is an add on specifically for equalizer APO and (don't remember why I installed peace) and left these on for like 2 yrs.

One day I was on discord and some people said my mic was too quiet (I never noticed before) so then opened up peace because I remember that was for mics and then idk what I did, I just touched the slider to increase output and then I think this is where my mic stopped working because then no app recognized it, discord, audacity, etc.

Sound works but not the mic and it's not a hardware problem because after I tried my AKG earbuds and the mic wasn't working either, tried headset on my laptop and the mic worked perfectly.

I uninstalled peace and equalizer and deleted all the remaining files, watched all the youtube tutorial vids, control panel sound part, device manager, uninstalled realtek audio and reinstalled it on boot, even used restore points to roll it back 2 days and no luck....

Mic suddenly stopped working, tried everything...


Hey guys,

So I put together a new PC running Windows 10 Pro around 3 months ago and everything was working perfect till 2 days ago when my mic suddenly stopped working. I use a Steelseries Siberia V2 headset and the headphones work fine, but the mic is not picking up any noise at all. I tried plugging in both the back and front ports and my realtek always detects that a mic has been plugged in, but it simply won't work. I thought maybe my mic got busted so I also tried using an A4 Tech headset that I had lying around in the office but it has the same issue, the mic won't work. I looked around online for possible solutions and tried the following with no luck:

• Ensured the mic was set as the default device and that its volume settings were maxed out.
• Tried disabling all sound effects (noise suppression, acoustic echo cancellation etc).
• Uninstalled all audio drivers and reinstalled the latest realtek drivers on my motherboard's webpage: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1151 - GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5 (rev. 1.0)
  
• Uninstalled all audio drivers and reinstalled the latest realtek drivers on realtek's own webpage: Realtek
• Uninstalled all audio drivers and let Windows auto-install drivers.
• I even uninstalled all realtek drivers and tried using the standard "high definition audio device drivers."

The conclusion was the same with everything I tried, the sound worked fine in both my speakers and headphones, but the mics simply didn't work. What's strange is that it just stopped working out of nowhere. I didn't install any new software or hardware or make any changes prior to the issue. Just turned the PC on one day and boom, mics not working.

I am completely stumped now and have no idea what to try next. I've attached screenshots of what my mic settings looked like with the realtek drivers and without. Really hope someone can help me figure out what went wrong.

USB Mic Problems.

The next step is what I suggested originally. Try it in a friend's PC or take it to Best Buy and ask them to try it one of their PC's. Have to confirm the mic is working OK.

 

Mic stopped working...

OK, I got this new microphone headset... the one like telemarketers use, with green and pink plug. Unplugged my old mic (the OLD ones, like the first computer microphones... back when they were still called microPHONES), plugged the new one in, and I go to UN-mute my microphone volume, and it still seems to be muted. I plugged in my old mic, the mic that I know worked last time I used it, two weeks ago before I muted mic.

So now im just confused... none of my mics work... it's not muted... I'm just going to get the latest HD audio drivers from realtek anyways, to see if that works. I'll post back if it works. ---wow i have to get it from techpowerup, because realtek wont go past 25k download speed.

unreal.... of all the newbness in the world... i was plugging them BOTH into the wrong ports.
