Windows 10: Mic sounds like I'm far away on Teams

I have a user that is having issues when speaking through his internal mic on a windows 10 machine only on Teams. I have gone to device manager and looked to see if there were any recent updates and there wasn't and I also tried to roll back his driver but nothing available. I went to HP and ran their image assistance but his machine only had one or two driver updates but none were from audio.


I called HP support and they took me through all the same steps and then we tried a zoom meeting and he sounded just fine and then we also tried a go to meeting and he sounded fine.


We decided to uninstall teams and reinstall it and it seemed to work, but then once he made another call it went right back to the muffled far away sound. But still sounded just fine in zoom. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

• Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?
• When did the issue first begin?
• To make sure that we have not missed on anything, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

This issue might occur due to a sound card issue. As an initial troubleshooting, we suggest that you try updating your sound card driver to resolve it.

USB Mic Problems.

The next step is what I suggested originally. Try it in a friend's PC or take it to Best Buy and ask them to try it one of their PC's. Have to confirm the mic is working OK.

 

Headset mic not working

This might occur when some of the mic setting got corrupted.

I would suggest you to try running Recording audio troubleshooter.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the Search area on the taskbar and select
  Troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Select Hardware and Sound.
  
• 
  Select Recording Audio under
  Sound and follow the on screen.
