Windows 10: Microphone and line in both have windows saying not plugged in. Brand new cable. Windows 10 x64

Microphone and line in both have windows saying not plugged in. Brand new cable. Windows 10 x64. I cant find a driver on Realtek site for it specifically. Windows says driver and device are good. No driver update available through Microsoft updates. I have tried other microphones and audio recording devices to no avail. Still says unplugged. There are many people with similar issues it seems. There are many false links online to files that don't work, or downloaders that promise to have the solution. Needless to say, they are false, and or malicious. If a solution is available, I am pc literate as they say, and can apply the solution. Need one first.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx
