Microphone boost at +20dB but recording volume goes quiet in app

So every time I open Discord and go into voice chat, my mic will be quiet. Naturally, I thought it may have something to do with the Recording devices in system sound settings, so I go to my mic, click on 'Properties' and then set the boost to +20.0dB except it is always already set to that.

For some reason, fiddling with the Microphone boost and leaving it at +20.0dB fixes it and my mic sounds loud and clear like it should. The annoying part is that I have to do this every time I change a voice channel on Discord. Fiddle with the Mic Boost and everything sounds like it should.

I have tried everything from reinstalling the drivers, to even Resetting the PC and nothing seems to have fixed it. Any idea will be welcome.

    :)

Microphone boost goes up to +10db max?

Well, +20db would be typical- I guess that's what wou're expecting...

    Considered here, with no solution:

Figures up to 40dB are mentioned- this shows 30dB..

  3. Microphone Boost causing start of sentaces to clip

I'm trying to record lectures using my microphone and have found that even at 100% it is very quiet. To address this I turned up the gain (or Microphone Boost) to +20dB in the properties window only now it seems to reduce the volume (though not in any way
that can be seen in the levels) when I'm not talking which means that the start of all my sentences are super quiet.

It also does this randomly in the middle of sentences.

I have tried disabling 'exclusive control' to see if some software somewhere was messing with the mic level but that didn't help.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers to no avail.

Can't boost microphone in Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to follow the step below and check if it helps.

How to Raise the Mic Volume in Windows 10.

    • Right click on Speaker on the
      System Tray.

    • Select Recording Devices.

    • This will bring the Sounds window on your screen. In the
Recording tab of Sounds window, you will notice the microphone which is active, i.e. the one with a green tick mark. Right click on the active microphone and select its
      Properties

    • Click on Levels tab of
Microphone Properties. This tab exhibits you two sections:
      Microphone andMicrophone Boost.

    • Use the sliders to modify your volume settings. You can take the Microphone Boost slider up to +40 dB. To save the changes, don’t forget to click
Ok button. If you do the modification while the conversation goes on then you will get the immediate feedback of the output sound from the end user and so you can adjust the volume using the sliders as per requirement.

Keep us posted on this issue so that we can assist you better.
