Windows 10: Microphone distorted all of a sudden

Hello, i have gotten a new microphone because my old one broke, this microphone is cheap but its the exact same one i had that broke (i got the same one because its a good microphone). My microphone was working fine until out of nowhere it started being really distorted and making me sound like a robot. Later i figured out its not the microphone's fault, but instead it had to do something with this computer because, i had tested this mic on another computer and it works just fine. I have tried updating my drivers, reverting back a couple days, messing around with a bunch off settings of the microphone and it still wont work. Microphone treated as line-in is heavily distorted

I want to mix the audio output of a console with the audio on Windows so that I can play games and watch videos/talk via VOIP programs while also hearing the game audio. To do this, I have bought a HDMI-repeater that extracts audio to RCA and an additional soundcard. The RCA output is converted to a regular 3.5mm audio jack that's plugged into the soundcard's microphone input. In Windows, I've set it to listen to this device.

This setup works, but the audio from the device is heavily distorted, even with microphone boost disabled. Feeding the RCA into a pair of headphones directly yields the expected audio, so there is no problem with the repeater.

Does Windows treat microphone input in some specific way that result in these distortions, and can they be disabled? The audio card I use is an ASUS Xonar DGX, and aside from changing the input volume (distorted on all volume levels) and toggling microphone boost, I can't seem to improve the audio.

Distorted sound in microphone while using skype

Let's ensure that the microphone that you are using is not disabled and is set as default in the computer. Follow these steps to check this:

a. Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.

b. Now, right click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.

c. Select “Microphone” and click on “Properties” and make sure that the microphone is enabled.

d. You may also check if the microphone that you are using is set as default.

Microphone strongly distorted except from realtek playback


Same problem here.

My microphone is really old and it was doing some distorted sounds until I was moving the cable and it was fine. So when I upgraded to Windows 10 I had a call on Skype and a friend told me it's distorted so as usual I tried to move the microphone cable around until it's fine but that didn't fix. So I basically tried to listen to my mic myself and the distortion wasn't the same. Basically the distortion my friends were hearing by the cable was small and could be fixed while moving the cable but this is just a mess.

I never used Realtek drivers as I hate them and today I saw that Windows had a realtek update via Windows Update itself which I never had before so I assumed that would be a fix or something and I installed. I listened the mic via Realtek playback and it was crystal clear as you say but via recording devices is still distorted. And on Skype they hear me distorted.

Another pathetic bug from Windows 10.
