Microphone drivers gone, completely non-functional and don't know how to restore.

It is quite confusing. I simply left for dinner, and once I came back, the microphone drivers were apparently gone. It no longer shows up as an input device in any of my installed apps, nor in windows's settings. Could I just "delete" the device and get the drivers back that way? Thanks.

Microphone Driver is not functioning well

    Hello Jericho,

I understand your concern, and we in Community will try to help you in the best possible way we can.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps and check the status of this issue.

    Check your microphone’s drivers

    • Type in “Device Manager” in the Search box and select it from the list.
    • Expand Sound, video and game controllers
    • Right-click (or tap and hold) your microphone device and select
      Update Driver Software.
    • Select Search automatically for updated driver software. This option will scan the Internet for the correct version of the driver or determine if you already have the most recent driver installed. You may be
prompted to restart your computer to install the driver.
Manually turn up the mic gain

    • Type in “Sound” in the Search box and select
      Sound (Control Panel)
      from the list.
    • Select the Recording tab.
    • Right-click (or tap and hold) on the active microphone input device and select
      Properties.
    • Select the Levels tab.
Manually drag the Microphone gain to a higher level and click
    Apply.

Write to us with the updated status and the required information for us to be able to assist you further.

    internal microphone non-functional

The problem: the internal microphone on my laptop is not working at all. Voice Recorder, Audacity, Zoom, Chrome - no program picks up any audio from the internal microphone. External microphones, whether plugged into the audio port or
    USB, work successfully.

Things I have tried, all of which resulted in no change:

    • updating audio drivers to newest version by downloading the version specific to my machine directly from ASUS. (uninstalled old version, used Windows PowerShell as admin to run .bat package downloaded from manufacturer, restarted machine.)
    • updated AMD chipset driver from the same source.
    • checked microphone privacy settings: apps have access to microphone.
    • checked that device was enabled in Sound settings: it is.
    • disabled Audio Enhancements.
    • ran audio troubleshooter: no errors detected.
    • restarted Windows Audio Endpoint Service and Windows Audio Service.
    • restarted Realtek Audio Universal Service.
    • used Device Manager to select Windows drivers for the Microphone (Audio Endpoint, High Definition Audio Device).
    • tried installing older Realtek drivers in compatibility mode: drivers failed to install.
    • [edited to add] checked Windows Update: up to date.

The system is, as of now, running the latest Realtek audio drivers, AMD Chipset drivers, and is up to date on Windows Update. All settings point to the microphone functioning correctly and Windows states that it is. Nonetheless, it does not pick up any
    input in any program.

    Any ideas?
