Windows 10: Microphone frequently not working despite of changing headphones, and even if it does work...

I need to try several time before microphone start recording things instead of being muted. Sometimes the microphone does not start despite of the attempts. Othertime the microphone is back, and my talking voice can be recognized correctly with both high and low volume. However, as I sing and my pitch reach a point, the microphone mutes my voice or at least reduced my voice until I stop singing and sing again with low or normal pitch. My guess is that my voice is recognized as noise and somewhere in this computer exist a noice gate, but I just can not find it. How do I fix the problem?

This is all i know btw when i click headphone it says mic is unplugged and when i do Mic in it says speakers are unplugged and mic is on.

First, try to check if the headphone mic works with different device for us to check if the issue is with the computer or the headphone mic itself.

If the headphone mic wont work using different device means it is faulty.

If the headphone mic works using a different device proceed with the steps below.

Here's the steps you can try.

-Press Windows key + X

-Go to Settings

-Click Update and Security

-Click Troubleshooter then Additional troubleshooter.

-Look for Speech and run the troubleshooter.

Once done proceed with these steps.

-Press Windows key + X

-Go to Device Manager

-Expand the Sound and Video Game Controller

-Look for Audio driver that was installed

-Right click and Update

-Look for "Browse my computer for driver

-Let me pick drivers available drivers

-Choose an old driver and use it.

Connect the earphone and proceed with these steps.

-Go to Control Panel

-In Control Panel, select Large icons from the View by drop down menu.

-Select Sound.

-Select the Recording tab

-Right click and Show Disabled Device

-Right click the Headphone Microphone and click Enable.

-Right-click it again and select Set as Default Device.

-Right click Headphone Microphone and click Properties.

-Click the Levels tab, then drag the volume slider towards the largest value.

-Click OK

-Click Advance Tab

-Uncheck the box to "Allow application to take exclusive control on this device"

Turn on Microphone Privacy in each app.

Select Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone . In Allow access to the microphone on this device, select Change and make sure Microphone access for this device is turned on.

Then, allow apps access to your microphone.

Once you've allowed microphone access to your apps, you can change the settings for each app.

Restart and check the Headphone Microphone.

If issue persist, let's download the updated driver.

What is the exact model of your computer?

To check the system model proceed with these steps.

-Press Windows key + R

-Type msinfo32 and hit enter.

-Look for the System Model and manufacturer post it here.

Before assisting further, did you check if similar issue persists on connecting another headphones to the PC?

You may be facing the above issue due to disabling the microphone option on your PC. If the option to use microphone is switched
Off, your microphone will not be getting detected and eventually will not be able to complete the setup wizard on the PC. The above issue may also occur due to the non-updated headphone drivers installed in the PC.

Method 1: Follow the steps below to check if the option to use microphone is enabled on your PC.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type
  Microphone privacy settings and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Check if Let apps use my microphone option is switched to
  On status. If not, slide the bar to On status and check if the changes are effective.
  

Method 2: Check if similar issue persists on connecting another headphones to the computer. If the headphone works fine on other PC’s,
update the headphone drivers manually from Device manager by following the steps below:

• 
  Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard select
  Device Manager from the options.
  
• 
  Expand Audio inputs and outputs option and check if the headphone drivers are visible in the window.
  
• 
  Right-click on the headphone driver and select
  Update this software option.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions and wait for the update to complete.
  
• 
  Close the window after the update is complete and check if the changes are effective.
  

If the issue persists, download and install the latest and most compatible driver from the device manufacturer’s website and check if the issue is resolved.
