Windows 10: Microphone is muted on multiple headsets - can't get it to "unmute"

I have tried two headsets and am getting the same issue, so I'm thinking it might be an issue with the PC and not the headphone. Basically, the microphone does not work on either headset or on the internal PC microphone. When I go into the audio settings and test the microphone, it does not detect any kind of voice activity. Both headsets have the red mute button on, but won't un-mute. I tried other USB ports on the computer but still no one can hear me. It can't be the headset because I am getting the same problem on both, and I just replaced it with a brand new one.

Can't unmute microphone?

In general, the microphone is on mute. We'd like to clarify following steps that you've done and ask you a few questions:

• When you unmute the microphone, is it via Recording tab under
  Recording devices?
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
• Are there any newly installed applications that may have caused this?
• Is this an on going issue or recent?
  

 

Headset not working after mute/unmute


If you have the headset plugged in and mute it, it won't work after you unmute regardless if you unplugged and re-plug in the headset.
No issue with the speaker if you unplugged the headset.
You may have to adjust the volume to zero and up the volume again for it to work again.

 

any way to mute and unmute microphone quick ??


I got me a new microphone and like most all microphones for PC there is no on and off switch, so on that note how can i mute and unmute it quick without having to click several things to get to the mute stuff, any ideas thanks. it saves also having to unplug and plug it in every time which would eventually we're usb ports out.
