Windows 10: Microphone is recognised after I enabled it but not functioning on Dell Inspirion 5000...

I recently changed my motherboard as my old one was fried and reinstalled windows and everything however my microphone hasn't been working I am not sure why it's recognised as a sound input device before it was not but I saw a guide and enabled it via control centre I've restarted my laptop 2x and then deleted audio drivers restarted it again then had to re-enable them and still not working. Windows 11 Laptop

Easy enable/disable microphone?

My bro just got a microphone and I was wondering if there's an easy way to enable or disable it. I know you can right click on the volume icon, click on select recording devices then select the microphone, then click properties, then click on levels, and mute it - but that's just way too many steps, I'm looking for a more obvious and much easier way to do it.

To have a better clarity on the issue and guide you accordingly, kindly help us with following information.

• Are you aware of any changes that happened on the computer prior to which this issue started happening?
  

The issue could possibly be due to a faulty adapter or the faulty charging board. To make sure it’s not a hardware issue, you may want to try the steps listed below to see if it works.



Try a different working AC adapter to make sure it’s not an issue with your adapter. If the issue persists on the different adapter, you may want to try the steps listed below and check it works:

• Power off the PC, remove the battery and disconnect any external peripherals, if connected.
  
• Press and hold the power button for 30 – 40 seconds, reconnect the battery and the AC adapter, and try to power on the machine to see if it boots.
  
• If the system boots after powering on, and if the error persists, try to reseat the battery.
  
• Tap F2 key on the keyboard at the Dell logo screen, when you power on the machine, to boot the system into BIOS.
  
• Tap F9 key to reset BIOS defaults. Press
  F10 key to save and exit.
  
• System will now restart, check if the issue persists.
  

If the issue persists, parts replacement may be required. Please get in touch with the
Dell Support and get the hardware fixed.

Enabling Microphone Settings on Windows 10.

I understand your concern. This setting might have disabled the Microphone in the computer.

I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and enable the Microphone.

1. Press Windows and
   R key together on your Keyboard.
2. Type Control and hit enter.
   
3. Click on Hardware and sound > click on sound
   on the right pane.
4. Choose Recording tab and find the Microphone on the devices list.
   

• If you can’t find it:
  Right click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
  
• Select “Headphone” and click on “Properties” and make sure that the Headphone is enabled.
  

5. Select the Microphone and click the button Set Default. (Ref fig 1)
