Windows 10: Microphone issue not solved with latest driver update

My microphone is giving really fuzzy audio with multiple microphones tried. It's a Realtek audio card, but updating to the latest driver (August 2017) didn't fix it. I've also tried disabling all sound effects, uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest, numerous reboots, but nothing I've found so far has fixed the problem. I really need my microphone to work, and any help is appreciated.

I did install the latest driver from Realtech. That did not solve the issue. Realtech does not bundle Waves Audio with it's drivers, apparently. That is done by Dell. The problem is that the fall creator's Windows update broke the driver that does
contain Waves Audio. I'm currently left without any solution. BTW, Waves Audio includes Andrea Microphone software, if that helps.

Hello Eileen. I couldn't find my way or which option to choose to solve the issue. Is a microphone needed or is there a driver for a built in microphone?

 

Have you tried both the front panel mic jack and the rear motherboard I/O panel mic jack? If not try the rear jack.

 

Yeah, it's in the rear I/O panel. That's the only place I have for audio.

 

Is this using a specific application or any application? Just trying to get a baseline on the problem.

I use a lot of audio as I have a recording studio.

 

No, it's not specific.

 

Is it a low volume level distortion or is it a high volume level distortion? There is a volume level setting for the mic.
What type/brand of mic?

Also, in case its something else causing the problem, download and run the free Resplendence Latency Mon program and see what that reports.

Distortion happens at all volume levels. The program recommended updating my BIOS.

 

Did the Latency Mon program say you can run audio without problems or did it flag it as having problems? The BIOS most likely is not this specific problem.

 

No, it said it has problems. It recommended disabling CPU throttling, and updating the BIOS. CPU throttling was never enabled, though.

 

Look at the other panels in Latency Mon as that may lead you to the one(s) that are causing the problems.

 

I ran it for an hour and a half, and what it said was "Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One or more DPC routines that belong to a driver running in your system appear to be executing for too long. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates. <br>LatencyMon has been analyzing your system for&nbsp; 1:28:01&nbsp; (h:mm:ss) on all processors."
