  1. Microphone issues

I've been using a 3.5mm jack headset for a long time on my PC and my pc has always detected the headset as both an input and output device so I was always able to use my microphone if I wanted. Typically I use my Blue Yeti microphone and the headset as just a pair of headphones. I always leave my computer on and a couple nights ago I went to bed, woke up the next morning and my Blue Yeti mic now had a ringing to the audio. The weirdest part is when a friend and I were trying to figure it out we screen shared my screen together and as soon as my screen went live the ringing interference stopped and as I closed the stream it began to start again.

In the midst of trying to figure this all out I figured for the mean time I could use my recon force 200 turtle beach headphones that have always acted as a microphone as well as a headset for my pc until I can solve the interference problem. For some reason, my turtle beach headphones are only showing up as a playback device and are no longer being detected as a microphone as well. This is the 3.5mm headset that I mentioned at the start of this that I have used for a longtime. So not only does the yeti mic now have a weird interference but my headset microphone isn't being detected by the computer either.

I decided to plug in an old headset that connects to the computer VIA headphone jack, microphone jack and usb. It worked, which then indicated to me that the audio ports on my motherboard were reading separately and weren't tied together as one. After going into my realtek audio settings and seeing that the audio ports in fact were set to read as one input I decided to dive into the drivers. I uninstalled and reinstalled my realtek audio drivers, made sure my microphone was enabled via privacy settings. I spent the better part of a day trouble shooting dozens of videos and fourms that had similar issues only to wind up empty handed.

My last resort was resetting the PC, surely this had to be the fix. After hours of resetting the issues still continued, so currently I have ordered a splitter adapter cable to go with my 3.5mm headset which should put a bandaid on that for now but I'd still like to get to the bottom of this because a week ago this wasn't an issue and everything was working perfectly fine.

    :)

    Microphone issues

    Hi Michael,

Here are the possible reasons why you're getting an error "The microphone did not pick anything up" when using it:

    • Incorrect settings (microphone is not set as default device)
    • Corrupted or outdated driver
    • Faulty device

For us to isolate the issue, we'd like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made to your computer prior to this issue(e.g. Windows updates)?
    • Have you tried connecting other microphone to your computer?
    • Have you tried connecting the microphone to the other computer?

In the meantime, we suggest running the Recording Audio Troubleshooter to find and repair problems with recording sound. We also suggest checking if your microphone is set as your default recording device. For troubleshooting steps, please see
    Geethu B's on this
    link.

We're looking forward to your reply.
