Windows 10: Microphone keeps on going in and out Windows 10, HP EliteBook 840 G3

I have a HP EliteBook 840 G3. Recently I have been having issues with my microphone. When I talk into my camera or voice recorder, the sound of my voice goes in and out. When I am talking with individuals through zoom or messenger, the same thing occurs as well. Thus people have a hard time hearing me. I have gone through all the troubleshooting solutions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4520288/windows-10-fix-sound-problems and I've also set my computer back to its factory settings, wiping all my documents, apps, etc.


Despite all this, when I try to troubleshoot these issues it says that a generic audio driver problem was detected even though I set it to factory settings. There are also times when the playback device sounds normal and than other times when the sounds cut in and out. I did try to update my Realtek audio driver, but once it uninstalled it never re-installed back on my computer. Despite downloading the Realtek audio driver from the windows website, it never shows up on my device manager or computer in general. So I don't know if this is part of the issues as well. My computer is about 4 years old as well.

Last point of note. I re-ran the UEFI on board diagnostics over night, all System tests, Exhaustive, this completed 15 time with no errors.

 

HP Elitebook 840 G3 external monitors on displayport connection blacks out every few minutes

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

a. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website.

b. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on
‘properties’.

c. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box
‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
