Windows 10: Microphone no longer works in Apps on Windows

I have an Asus Vivobook pro 15 and my microphone stopped working a while ago. It used to work perfectly, and I don't know exactly when it stopped as I usually use bluetooth headphones as my Mic and this seems to work fine. I have done fairly extensive research on the issue and followed all advice I have found so far.The microphone can be detected in system settings and testing it in the system settings causes the levels to increase when sound is detected and troubleshooting finds no issues. However, in apps no sound is detected. Apps used include Zoom, voice recorder, Audacity and a few others

You suggested the following. My responses are in CAPS.

May I ask if this happens after an update or installation? NO. HAS BEEN ONGOING.
Have you checked if your microphone is working with another PC or laptop? YES
May I ask if you have tried or performed the following steps on the links below? YES

I believe I may know why my microphone works during some virtual meeting platforms such as Google meet app and not during other virtual meeting platforms.



For virtual meeting platforms which ask “ ALLOW Google to access your microphone” I select yes to allow the app microphone access during the Google meets virtual meeting. This request is made after I click on the meeting invitation and request to join the meeting.



If a virtual meeting platform is ZOOM I am NOT asked to “ Allow Zoom to access your microphone”. As a result my microphone is not accessed by the ZOOM app and my microphone is not accessed and thus people can not hear me when I speak.



I do not know where in the myriad of Windows settings to allow other apps, Zoom, Another windows setting I am unable to find is to allow TEAMS to ask to use my mic. I notice TEAMS does NOT ask for microphone permission when I am not the meeting's Originator. When I am the TEAMS meeting originator no problem with my microphone.



Does anyone know the Windows setting to go to so all apps that need access to my microphone ask me microphone permission each time it is needed. Again works for Google meets app but not other meeting apps

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: I suggest you to set microphone as default device and check.

• 
  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
  
• 
  Right click on Microphone and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.
  

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.

  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:
  
• 
  Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.
  
• 
  Now, Right Click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
  
• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.
  

And also update the audio drivers from the manufacturer web site and install.

I suggest you to run the microphone troubleshooter by following the steps below:

• Type “Troubleshooter” in the search box and press Enter.
• Click on ‘View All’ on the top left corner.
• Click on “Recording Audio” from the list and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.
