Windows 10: Microphone not recognized repeatedly, requires reboot to resolve

My windows 11 keeps forgetting I have a microphone. It seems to be related to using slack huddles or zoom calls. Haven’t been able to decipher which one is causing it. But basically, my microphone will work fine until all of a sudden I go to get on a meeting and then it’s not seeing a mic. Once I reboot, all is well again until some mystery point in time when it stops getting recognized again. This is a huge PITA and I’d love to get it fixed. Any ideas?

Recognizing a Microphone Without Drivers?

Method 1: Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your device. Refer these steps:

Method 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled and is set as default.

Make sure that the microphone that you are using is not disabled and is set as default in the computer. Follow these steps to check this:

a) Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.

b) Now, right click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.

c) Select “Microphone” and click on “Properties” and make sure that the microphone is enabled.

d) You may also check if the microphone that you are using is set as default.

Built in microphone not working

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: I suggest you to set microphone as default device and check.

• 
  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
  
• 
  Right click on Microphone and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.
  

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.

  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:

  What is the make and model of the Microphone and mic?
  

I suggest you to connect the Mic on a different machine and check if it helps

Try to connect a different Mic on your computer and check.

This will help to verify if the issue is with faulty Mic or not.

As you have mentioned you have connected the Mic using the combo audio jack using a splitter cable, I suggest you to try replacing the cable and check as it could be an issue with the cable.
