Windows 10: Microphone not working no matter what

Hello,

I have not used my mic built-in in a laptop in a while now 1 week possibly, and now when I actually want to use it I just can't. It no longer works at all.
The device is shown in the sound control and is set to default. I have tried reinstalling drivers, and even trying different ones from the device manager list. I have tried rolling back windows update and then updating as well, but to no avail. I have tried entering 3 different headsets, one of which is a Bluetooth device. I have also tried using Windows troubleshooter. The mic just doesn't hear me at all. I have also tried to disable fast startup with hibernation enabled and then disabled or something as suggested in the community here. If I try to change some settings in the sound control, the whole thing stops responding Windows host process RUNDLL32 is not responding. I just don't know what to do any more??? I would have reinstalled my Windows, but I had done that just a few months ago -_-. Any help would be appreciated. NOTE: I was enrolled in the Windows Insider program the stable one, IDK if that might be the problem. I have however left the program, but can no longer join due to another problem some settings are hidden or are being controlled by your organization, where as this is a HOME version of windows with no organizations involved was on 20H1 and now on 20H2.

Built in microphone not working

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: I suggest you to set microphone as default device and check.

• 
  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".
  
• 
  Right click on Microphone and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.
  

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.

• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:
  
• 
  Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.
  
• 
  Now, Right Click on an empty space and select, “Show disconnected devices” and “Show disabled devices”.
  
• 
  Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled.
  

And also update the audio drivers from the manufacturer web site and install.

• Type “Troubleshooter” in the search box and press Enter.
• Click on ‘View All’ on the top left corner.
• Click on “Recording Audio” from the list and follow the prompts for troubleshooting.

External microphone does not work

The issue could be because of the microphone being in a disabled state. I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works:

• Open Control Panel and categorize to view by
  Small Icons.
  
• Click on Speech Recognition and navigate to
  Advanced Speech Options > Microphone > Advanced
  
• Check Real Conexant HD Audio, save the changes and exit
  Control Panel.
  
• Restart the machine to see if the microphone works.
