Windows 10: Microphone on headset not being used on PC while webcam microphone is being used instead.

I can plug in my headset in and out now fine, but the microphone is not working. If I plug in the headset into another device, the headset works perfectly fine. When plugging in my PC, the headphones on the headset work, but the microphone is not being used. Instead, the integrated webcam microphone is being used. This is really troublesome and my webcam microphone is very quiet and I would much rather use my headset microphone. When going into recording devices, it only says there is one microphone



I'm not too sure what Stereo Mix is, but it didn't fix it when I enabled it so don't worry about that.

I am not sure why only my webcam microphone is being used, if anyone knows how to help me, please do. Thank you!

1. Are you aware of any changes being made to the PC?
   
2. Which build version of Windows 10 you are using currently?
   
3. What is the make and model of the PC?
   
4. Have you tried using a different headset?
   
5. Did you try using the Microphone on a different PC?
   

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check if that helps.



Method 1:



Try running the Microphone troubleshooter.

1. Go to Settings >
   Update & security > Troubleshoot.
   
2. Under Find and fix problems look for
   Recoding Audio.
   
3. Click on Recording Audio and click
   Run the troubleshooter.
   
4. Follow the on screen instructions.
   

Method 2:



Try changing the accessibility settings of Microphone. Refer the article

Fix microphone problems.

Computer Not Using and or Not recognizing Headset Microphone

Recently I got a gaming headset but upon plugging in the headset my microphone jack, I realized my computer was not picking up audio from the headset mic. I have looked through other forums but I still cannot find a solution to this problem. I have looked at the sound settings and saw that under the recording category, It shows a second microphone device that is only accessible by plugging in my headset. But when doing so I've noticed that when talking into my headset mic the recordings menu does not show any signs of sound. But if I tap my headset the sound meter goes up. This makes me think that my computer only picks up sounds around the headset and not the mic itself.

Other Info
1) For my sounds, video and game controllers in the Device Manager I have High Definition Audio Device and Intel(R) Display Audio listed.
2) I have a windows 7 upgraded to windows 10

• What happens when you try to use the Microphone?
  
• What is the make and model of the headphone?
  
• What is the make and model of the computer?
  
• Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? To check type:
  winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit
  Enter.

You can also try making the Microphone as the default device. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + R, to open
   Run dialog box.
   
2. Type mmsys.cpl and click on
   OK.
   
3. Now, click on Recordings tab.
   
4. Now, right click on the Microphone and select
   Set as Default device. Do the same in Playback and
   Recording tab.
   
5. Click on OK, and check if the Microphone is working.
