Windows 10: Microphone Recording Only on Left Side of LifeCam Cinema Webcam

Before it's asked - I'm using a PC/desktop: IntelR 64-bit OS Win10Pro. My microphone is a Shure SM7B XLR, plugged into an interface, which is a Steinberg UR12. I have recently purchased this equipment in mid-January 2021, it is now mid-February 2021 - so drivers are up to date upon the day I installed them, and this problem has been occurring since the day I set this up.


I have managed to get my sound to properly be in mono when using DAW software. This means I can produce audio-only content just fine, in mono, by going directly into the software settings to be sure of this. However, my problem is when I create videos, using my LifeCam Cinema, with my [Steinberg] microphone used as the default mic, it's only coming out of one channel, causing only left-side sound, which is especially awful for those who hear my videos with headphones.


My LifeCam Cinema camera doesn't have audio settings. If it did, I could manipulate this to only record in mono. When I used the camera's built-in mic at first, it was fine, but the quality isn't terrific, and I don't care to go back to it. I wanted to let my Shure SM7B override these apps and programs. However, when I set my microphone to be my default device, and disable the camera's built-in mic, now it seems my videos are being recorded with left-only Line 1 audio.

Attached are where I'm having difficulties. In Sounds>Recording>Line 2 - Steinberg>Properties, you'll see my "default format" is stuck on 2-channel, and is greyed out. I am thinking if I could just have the ability to adjust this to 1 channel mono this might solve my issue. But this is how the equipment was originally set up, and I have not adjusted any settings other than in my DAW software - which is separate from what this is.


My issue is how my LifeCam cinema camera is allowing the sound to filter through. As you can see from the next screenshots, I have no way of manipulating the audio for the camera, since the built-in was a simple single channel - but as we know is not superior quality.

My LifeCame Cinema webcam is always on. Why?

I had the same problem and think I know what it is - Cortana needs to listen to you all the time for the 'Hey Cortana!' prompt, and probably the webcam is the only microphone on your system, or it has been set to be the default recording device some how.

To change this, right mouse click on the little speaker icon in the system tray, and select 'Recording Devices'. Then, un set the Microsoft Lifecam as the default recording device. When you press OK, it should stop the blue light on the webcam.

Having said all that, the Lifecam cinema has a pretty decent microphone for a webcam, and works with Cortana pretty well, so you could just do what I do and turn the camera away when you are not using it.

 

Lifecam Cinema microphone not working


My Lifecam Cinema microphone worked fine in Windows 7 but in Windows 10, it's not working. The driver appears installed fine. I've tried upgrading it but I'm told that the currently installed driver is the latest.I chatted with a MS rep who told me to call MS but they just told me to go back to their site.

Any ideas?

To install Microsoft Lifecam Cinema on your Windows 10 computer, follow the steps below:

• Insert the LifeCam Software disc in the CD/DVD-ROM drive, and then run the setup to start the
  Installation Wizard.
• Connect the USB cable of the LifeCam Cinema to the USB port when the software prompts you to. Follow the guided prompts in the Installation Wizard to complete the setup.
• Microsoft Lifecam Cinema should now be installed. Press the Windows key and search for
  Microsoft LifeCam to launch the program.
