Windows 10: Microphone stopped working after update to Windows 10 1803

Hi,


I'm currently using a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro PCI Sound Card. Before Windows update happened, I was able to use my microphone with applications like Skype and Discord.


While I am still able to hear sound, my microphone does not seem to work unless I set playback from microphone within the Creative X-Fi Sound Mixer. I have updated my Microphone Privacy settings within Windows as well as making sure that the latest drivers are installed. This previously worked in 1709.


To reiterate:


I have updated my microphone privacy settings in Windows.

I have ensured I have the latest drivers.

Microphone not working properly after upgrade to 1803


After upgrade to 1803 my microphone is not working properly. I googeld and found many times this answer:

• Hit Windows key and search for "microphone privacy settings"
• Hit "Allow access to the microphone on this device"
• Switch "Allow apps to access your microphone" to ON

Among the apps that are showing is Edge. There the mike is working, but on chrome and my games microphone is not working

 

Sennheiser GSP 350. Microphone stops working when I open any game

Wow, ok. I think I've fixed it by accident while fiddling around.

It appears to be the Realtek audio being the issue here. I don't use my onboard sound card as my headset is a USB headset only and my speakers are plugged into an ASUS sound card.

Step by step fix:

• I went into recording devices
• I enabled STEREO MIX (Realtek High Definition Audio)
• Then I set that Stereo Mix as the DEFAULT DEVICE (At this point it took over both input and output devices without my permission )
• Then set my Sennheiser headset as default recording and playback devices in their respective windows even though they both still said they were the default devices when they weren't

Headset microphone is currently functioning while in game now. I'll update the thread if it goes again. Should I completely disable Realtek audio??? Or will windows just force it to work again?

 

Microphones stopped working after update...

After feature update windows 10 version 1803 installed on May 2, 2018 my microphone on my headset stopped working and no other mic will work... I can hear perfectly fine, just no talking/recording.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the hardware, updated drivers, restarted services, updated bios, checked every setting to make sure I wasn't muted or turned down, that the device was set properly as default, googled and followed the steps for the error
that comes up with the troubleshooter "audio services not responding"... nothing.

Anyone else have the same issue? Can anyone help? I miss my microphone!
