Windows 10: Microphone stops working after one second in certain apps

I’ve got a weird one for you!My windows 11 laptop’s microphone works fine anywhere in windows besides on zoom and teams desktop apps didn’t check other video conference apps. When I use the built in sound recorder I can record as long as I want to, and when I checked on a voice recorder online through edge, it also worked. The problem is specifically in zoom and teams. When I select the microphone on zoom, the other side can hear me for one second after switching to it and that’s it. On teams it doesn’t seem to work at all. My microphone is still not working. I even checked the BIOS as someone had suggested but there is no listing for the microphone in there.

Certain Microphone Not Working

Before we proceed I would like you to try the following steps and see if it helps:

Step 1: Ensure the headphone or microphone is fully and firmly inserted into the correct jack.

Step 2: Plug in the headphone or microphone and see if the same shows up in Control Panel.

Step 3: Check the volume property. Ensure that it’s not mute.

You may also follow the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1:

Please follow the instruction

a) Right-click on sound icon in the taskbar and select “Recording Devices”.

See if the Microphone is listed.

b) If not, right-click on the blank area and select “Show Disabled Devices”.

c) Right-click on your microphone and select “Enable”.

Method 2:



I also suggest you to make your headphone as the default device when it is plugged in.

This may happen when you have the external speakers set to default.

Perform the task mentioned below to set headphones as default:

1. On the start screen of windows 8 press the ‘Windows key + X’ key on the keyboard and then click on control panel and then Hardware and sound option.

2. Click in Sound, then a new window will open up.

3. In the new windows click on the tab "Playback" and right click in the window and click on Show Disabled devices.

4. Now check if headphones are listed there and right click on it and choose enable.

5. Highlight that headphones and click on "Set as Default".
