Windows 10: Microphone that works properly on windows 10

Hi all -

Windows ten is making me angry. None of my previously compatible devices work anymore.

Can someone tell me - is there a microphone, preferrably one that I can clip onto my shirt, that is compatible with windows ten? My current computer Dell xps 13 only has USBC ports, I bought an adaptor but my old Rode lavalier smartLav+ has really terrible sound quality when plugged into the adaptor.

Do I need to get a bluetooth microphone? I don't even know how to fix this anymore.

Microphone not working properly after upgrade to 1803

After upgrade to 1803 my microphone is not working properly. I googeld and found many times this answer:

1. Hit Windows key and search for "microphone privacy settings"
2. Hit "Allow access to the microphone on this device"
3. Switch "Allow apps to access your microphone" to ON

Among the apps that are showing is Edge. There the mike is working, but on chrome and my games microphone is not working

Since I installed windows 10 my microphone is not working. I tried ALL the steps that you suggested in other threads and the microphone still doesn't work! Please find urgently a solution!

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

If a mic connected to this computer isn’t working properly then it’s likely a settings problem.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Right-click on the speaker icon in the bottom-right part of the screen.
  
• 
  Click on ‘Recording Devices‘.
  
• 
  A list of recording devices will appear. Try speaking into your microphone, and see if there any
  green bars rising next to one of them while you talk.
  
• 
  If you don’t see any green bars skip to step 5.
  
• 
  Check if you can recognize which one of the devices in the list is your
  microphone. If you found it, click on it to highlight it, and then click
  Set Default.
  
• 
  Check again if you see green bars rising when you talk into the microphone. If you do your mic is now correctly setup. If not, continue to next step.
  
• 
  Double-click on the device that represents your microphone. The
  Microphone Properties window will appear. Click the Levels tab.
  
• 
  In the levels tab, drag the slider all the way to the right, until the number on the right says “100“.
  
• 
  Click OK and check if it helps.
