Windows 10: Microphones are no longer detected on laptop

Since mid-May this year, my laptop has stopped recognizing microphones, built-in or external.


I regularly used earphones with a built-in microphone for online meetings on my laptop via Webex, Zoom, Teams, until sometime around May 17th when I realized the issue. I tried testing each software on my phone using the same earphones and the microphone works just fine.


So far, I've checked the Windows Audio settings Audio, Enhancers, Microphone, etc., updating/reinstalling the audio drivers Synaptics SmartAudio HD, running troubleshooters, plugging other headsets into the laptop, to no avail.


I read about issues identified with the Windows 10 2004 update and hoped the latest patch would solve this, but still no luck.


The speakers/audio output have been working fine, but I urgently need a solution to the microphone issue as soon as possible.

Microphone not detected

I've run it, it says the problem was 'Generic audio driver'. But I don't actually feel any problems on playing audios. My problem was about external microphones not detected, this laptop wont detect any external microphones
plugged in, it will always use the internal microphone. I've done the troubleshoot (recording audio) and the troubleshoot said they can't detect the problem.

 

Headphones microphone not detected

Hi guys, my microphone worked well till someone changed some settings on my laptop and now idk how to change it back. I can hear in my headphones but the microphone is not detect. Only the laptop microphone works.... I have Steelseries arctis 3

I want to use the microphone attached to the headset as I just bought the headset but my laptop is still using the built-in mic and the headset mic is not detected.
