Windows 10: Microsoft 3050 Keyboard, 5000 Mouse not responding. HID missing.

Probably because I recently updated my hardware (GPU and controller), while I was updating the drivers (of the new hardware) I noticed the keyboard wasn't responding. After a few moments, the mouse wasn't responding either and the cursor disappeared.


Unplugging and plugging Microsoft Wireless Receiver didn't help at all, no I was forced to turn off the system using the MB reset button.


After a few restarts, the trio Receiver, Keyboard and Mouse were recognized as new devices (obviously, they were not).


However, I noticed that the volume controls in the keyboard, as well as the customizable buttons weren't responding at all. Also, the mouse wheel started acting weirdly, being extremely slow.


The keyboard and mouse are running on Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Management (v. 10.4.137.0). The software and drivers were uninstalled and reinstalled and are updated.


While searching for solutions, I stumped upon this guide

and noticed that I have no HID services no more (it's not simply turned off... it's not even listed in the services).


I checked in "View local services" and in the task manager (under "Services") and found nothing.

I also checked the registry, in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\hidserv, and found values that are totally different from what I saw in the Windows forums... both in nature and value.

Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse 5000

We need few details to assist you better,

1. What is the make and model of the computer?

2. Did you try to check if the issue persist while using other keyboard?

This issue may cause due to
most common with USB peripherals. Let us try simple troubleshooting steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

• 
  Type "Troubleshooting"
  in the Search box from the desktop and click "Troubleshooting".
  
• 
  Click on "View all" from the left pane and select "Hardware and Devices".
  
• 
  Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.
  
• 
  Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.
  

If the issue persists, download and install the latest Mouse and Keyboard driver and check if it helps.

Microsoft Keyboard 3050

Thank you for your suggestions dated 12 August and subsequent followup.

The problem still persists and I hope the following information will help you to give me more advice.

• What are the basic functions that are not working?

Mail button, home, and headphone buttons work. The rest do not. Also, I cannot open the file which shows the functions of the various keys.

• Any changes to the device prior to the issue?

There was an update but I did not make a note of it, sorry.

• Which Windows version?

Windows Enterprise. Version 1607.

Note. The device will not download Version 1703 but tries daily.



I have performed the clean boot operation several times. The only result is that I can now use the three buttons listed above. No other changes.

Initially, when I first purchased the keyboard, I inserted batteries, plugged in the USB stick and everything worked OK. I have downloaded the software for the 3050 keyboard from the web and tried to use that – no improvement.



I must advise you that I am using an unactivated version of Windows10. After the initial download in late 2016 I experienced lots of problems. (See my past posts on these). In an effort to clear these I had a re-installation of W10 done, which has
turned out to be unactivated. The computer and 3050 keyboard then worked perfectly for some weeks until the keyboard stopped working. It works fine as a standard keyboard. The PC also works fine with an old wired keyboard.



One further point. I also have a laptop and have connected the 3050 keyboard to it. It works 100% on the laptop!!!

I hope you can come up with some ideas.

Microsoft 3050 keyboard combo issue

I have a room full of Microsoft 3050 keyboard/mouse combos. They are all spread out and I don't know which keyboard is suppose to be paired with what mouse/usb. Is there a way to see which keyboard belongs to which mouse and usb? If not is there a way
to resync a keyboard to a separate usb/mouse
