Windows 10: Microsoft 3D viewer Preview in Explorer not working anymore

I used to be able to view a preview of STL and OBJ files in the preview pane of Windows 11 explorer when those files were set to open with the 3D Viewer app. However, today I noticed that there no longer were any previews showing. I have tried restarting, reinstalling the 3D viewer app, scanning the disk for errors with sfc /scannow, but nothing helped. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? The preview works as a static image when using 3D Builder as the default, but I really liked the 3D Viewer preview since it let you rotate the object within the preview pane.

Microsoft 3D viewer Preview in Explorer - Not Working when explorer window is on secondary monitor

I'm noticing a weird glitch using Windows 10 and the 3D Viewer software to preview OBJ files in the Windows File Explorer. It works perfectly fine when using it on my main monitor (1), but if I move the explorer window to one of my alternative monitors (2) or (3), the files will not load in the preview window anymore.

Any ideas on a solution for this, or an alternative software for quickly previewing 3D files?

Setting the Preview pane to show or hide in File Explorer will apply to all folders. If you wish to hide the Preview pane in File Explorer, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer.
• Tap on View tab.
• Click Preview Pane to view/hide it.

Preliminary step – Enable thumbnails and preview handlers in Explorer

1. Open Folder Options
   
2. Enable “Show preview handlers in preview pane”
   
3. Uncheck “Always show icons, never thumbnails
   

If thumbnail and preview functionality is still missing for PDF file types, proceed to the next step.

Microsoft PowerToys is not acceptable alternative because it is not approved; my guess is PowerToys utility could wreak havoc within the Windows operating system; as such, novice users have often been encouraged to use caution.
