  1. Microsoft Account login on new PC for 12 year old

I have a microsoft account and my 12 year old son is added as a family member on the account he has no password but does have an email address on there. I have bought him a new PC. When starting the PC it asks to login in to your microsoft account. How can he login without a password or do I need to login to my account and then change some settings? Obviously I want to be able to monitor what he is doing is safe and have the right settings in place.

    :)

Must be at least 12 years old.

Not sure if the above solution solved it, but I have a related issue.

I'm a parent, and I am wondering if there is a way to get around this 12-year-old limitation via parental controls, etc..

The reason is that there are instances where this age limit doesn't make sense. For a example, Microsoft strangely says that you have to be at least 12 years old to use Microsoft Word Mobile.

I am a parent of 2 children, one 13 and the other 11. On my home desktop (Windows 10 Pro), MS Store allows my 13 year-old to download and install Word Mobile, but it does not allow my 11 year old. (I guess MS knows the age of my kids because they are signing
into their accounts with their own Microsoft login, which has their personal profile).

But it seems ridiculous that MS is saying you have to be 12 to use Word. That means until they are in 7th grade, they can't use Word?? But schools give out homework to be done in Word. MS touts itself as the educational champions (per their advertisements
that feature elementary / junior high school teachers). But then they won't allow 6th graders to use word, because they are under 12?

I understand that because of some research functions built into Word, maybe it would be a good idea to limit the age of children using Word. But as a parent, I've set up parental controls and net filters.. and now I want to install Word into my 11-year-old's
    account.

But there doesn't seem to be a workaround.

Is there some way that I can install Word and Powerpoint onto my child's account? (Powerpoint has the same problem, by the way).

How to replace old Microsoft Account with a new Microsoft Account

    Hi Hitendra,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. I understand your concern and I am glad to assist you.

I would suggest you to switch your Microsoft account to a Local account first and then switch back with a new Microsoft account. Please refer to the following steps:

    Step 1:

    • Type Manage your accounts
in the search bar and click on it
    • Click on "sign in with a local account instead"
    • Press next and complete the process.
    • If you do not have a local account, leave the credentials blank and proceed.

Step 2: Now, on the newly converted Local account, follow these steps to add a new MSA.

    1. In the Start search, type "Manage your accounts" and press Enter.

    2. Choose 'Accounts'.

    3. Click on "sign in with a local account instead"

    4. Enter the Microsoft account ID and Password and click Next.

Hope this post helps. Get back to us for further queries. We are happy to help!
