Windows 10: Microsoft account password not working for network or remote desktop access

I have a desktop and a laptop. The desktop was reformatted earlier this week. Both are running Windows 11 Pro, both have a single user account that is my personal Microsoft account. Before the reformat, I was able to access files from my desktop on my laptop over the network, and would on occasions use remote desktop to change/run things on my desktop from my laptop. But now I can't. It keeps asking me for my password, and then telling me that my password is invalid despite it being the password for the account that I'm using, the same password that works EVERYWHERE ELSE. Remote Desktop

Okay guys need some help here before going crazy...
I am trying to setup a remote desktop connection and see exactly what the logged on user is looking at with out going through Windows Remote Desktop.

Since its local network I don't have any password or want to setup a password.

Any suggestions are appreciated

 

Remote Desktop "Credentials did not work"

I reinstalled windows on my Desktop yesterday. I previously had a handy little shortcut on my desktop to allow me to access my laptops desktop via remote desktop. Of course this shortcut has now disappeared, so I tried to set it up again.

Now, when I go to connect it asks for a password to go with username "MicrosoftAccount\my email". Of course I tried the password associated with that microsoft account and just get a message saying "your credentials did not work".

I have looked all over google, tried various steps that were advised such as enabling a load of security policies and adding "TERMSRV/*", and a few other things but nothing works.

Yes, I have remote desktop enabled on the device I want to access, and both on same network which is set as private/home network on both devices.

What is going on?! So annoying.

 

Remote Desktop not working for my Windows/10 machine

I restored a computer to original Windows/10, set it to allow remote access, and still can't access it using Remote Desktop from another machine.

They are both network connected to the same wireless router.

I'm logged into the same Microsoft account on both.

I'm trying to access it using either computername or IP address - neither works.

I CAN successfully run TRACERT using either computername or IP address and both work.

Windows Firewall does not list an application named "Remote Desktop" (still doesn't connect even if I turn the firewall off).

Thoughts? Suggestions?
