Windows 10: "Microsoft account problem" notification on a local account - any way to completely prevent...

Hi! I found a couple of these sorts of inquiries on here and on windows and tech support general, but they are all between 1-3 years old and offered no permanent fixes so wanted to see if anyone could help. I also found this post from earlier today but they seem to be using a MS account whereas I am using a local account.

I got a new laptop about 2 weeks ago and set it up with my existing Microsoft account without thinking. I decoupled it from my Microsoft account and turned it into a local account immediately after setting it up. All "shared experiences" are OFF. However, I keep getting the "Microsoft account problem" notification nearly every day, and if I click on it, it tries to prompt me to reconnect my local account with my Microsoft account. I don't want to recouple them and I don't want to receive the notification at all. I also don't have any applications like OneDrive or Outlook which would be sending a sync "heartbeat" to prompt the notification.

Is there a way to either disable notifications of this kind, or make Windows "forget" that I had initially set up my current account in conjunction with my Microsoft account before switching it to local?

Local account installation question

I'm fairly certain that Skip this step was available in 10.0.130 - the workaround in Step 20 (back button) is no longer required.

The currently known, as of 10.0.130, ways to create a Local account sign-in are

• Skip this step at the MS account creation phase
• No Internet connection during the install
• static IP (post# 2 by Fragment) - New (to me anyway)

 

Windows 8 with 2 Microsoft accounts?

I was thinking of doing that, but it will be a PITA setting everything up on the 2nd account again. I might go that way and just spend the time getting the account in order.

The problem is, I would need to switch at the start of every day. Extra reset and waiting for the settings to be applied etc. Also, I'm not sure whether one drive would be maintained after switching back to a local account. I wouldn't want to have to re-sync every time I logged in. I may have to do some testing to see if onedrive is maintained after switching back to a local account.

Yea, I would create a local account and just use your school account to login to Outlook and Onedrive.
