NTFS vs ExFAT for a non-system SSD

You don't have to use FUSE to use ExFAT on Linux.

I use this kernel module to read/write ExFAT filesystems when the need arises.

The point is though, that NTFS read/write is supported in the kernel, and is enabled by default on most distributions.
ExFAT however is not supported in any way in the kernel, and requires compiling a third-party kernel module and inserting it into the kernel. This is only feasible on a system which you have total control over, and if you understand how Linux, compiling, and kernel modules work.

Android can only use ExFAT if the OEM has purchased a license for the filesystem. Since android uses the Linux kernel, I'm sure you can cross-compile to module I linked above and slip it into the firmware, but that requires a rooted phone, and far more knowledge of Android/Linux/Whatever architecture processor your device has.

Exquisitely sensitive stability testing - the linux kernel!

its not advisable to argue with a Wizzard he might turn you into a toad
and no one runs stress tests under linux
unless Linux is there main os .... and who runs Linux as there main os .... no one /trolling the linux kernel is not a TOOL for anything its a Kernel ... I suggest you go read up on the subject windows has a Kernel to and its far more sensitive to OC faults then Linux

Microsoft adding exFAT to Linux kernel

    exFat

If anyone hasn't heard of exFat, take a look at this. exFAT - Wikipedia

Just swapped to exFat on all my portable drives. I got really frustrated with 4Gb file limitations on my portable drives, as well as limited partition sizes. And i don't use Linux or any other OS to much (Tho i should probably have a Linux box built just for formatting drives). And now that there's a patch for XP as well to support compatibility, i believe its worth it.
