Windows 10: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter *BLACK SCREEN* issue

I did a clean reinstall of windows 10 64 bit on my Lenovo Y520, everything was okay until I had to update my Microsoft Basic Display Adapter to Intel Graphics 630, after this update my screen went black and can only be fixed if I boot in safe mode and roll back the driver to MBDA. Without the intel driver I cannot connect another monitor via HDMI to my laptop or change my resolution or even controlling the screen brightness. Please if someone can help that would be awesome, laptop has been stuck like this for weeks and I can't manage to find a fix.

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to go to device manager and disable the display drivers, check whether the issue persists or not.

• Press Windows + X keys and click
  Device manager.
• Click to expand Display adapters, right click the second adapter and click
  Disable.
• Restart the computer and check whether the issue persists or not.
• Repeat the same steps to disable the first display adapter and check if it helps.

If you find the issue is with anyone of the display adapters then, I suggest you to update the display drivers from the manufactures website for Windows 10 and check if it helps.

Method 2: I suggest you to follow the steps form the below article for
“Black Screen” issues and check if it helps.

No Display after Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

I could not adjust the brightness of my monitor using Windows 10. I found a website (How to fix Windows 10 brightness control not working issue) which suggested that I change my display's driver to Microsoft Basic Display
Adapter. However, as soon as I accepted that option, both of my screens went black and now they will not show a display. The lights on the front of both are flashing, so I know they're on. I've also never had a problem with either screen before. I've tried
disconnecting the screens, reconnecting only one, and resetting my computer, but no luck.

 

Display adapter not being recognised, black screen issue.


Hi all,

Upon upgrading to w10 I encountered the black screen issue. When plugging in another screen to the HDMI adapter on my laptop the display appears working perfectly. The laptop screen only shows anything during boot, as soon as the system starts it sits with a black screen.

If i disable the onboard gfx and reboot the screen will display on the laptop, however it is using "microsoft basic display" and not the onboard gt 555m

I have up to date drivers from g force, I have up to date drivers from intel. I am at a loss as to how to solve this.

When another monitor is connected it works absolutely perfectly. The issue is it just wont pick up the laptop screen at all.

Edit - The issue seems to be the GT 555 graphics card. The onboard is the one that's actually detected and working however this is only as an external monitor not with the laptop display. GT 555 is updated via the Nvidia app and says it's W10 ready, yet it's not functioning in any capacity it seems.
