Microsoft Basic Display Driver???

Just an update, Microsoft has removed the driver from the update servers so uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers should work now.

Remove AMD drivers:

Your display driver should now be switched to Microsoft basic adapter.

Restart and Check for Windows updates or Click update driver now for Microsoft basic display adapter in Device Manager.

To update the driver for the Basic Display Adapter in Windows 10, follow these steps:

1. Open Device Manager: Right-click on the "Start" button and select "Device Manager" from the context menu.
   
2. Locate Display Adapters: In the Device Manager window, expand the "Display adapters" section. You should see "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" listed.
   
3. Right-click and Update Driver: Right-click on "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" and select "Update driver" from the dropdown menu.
   
4. Choose Update Method: In the Update Drivers window, you will have two options:
   
   • Search automatically for updated driver software: This option will allow Windows to search online for the latest driver and install it automatically.
     
   • Browse my computer for driver software: If you have already downloaded the latest driver from the manufacturer's website, select this option and browse to the location where the driver is saved on your computer.

6. Manual Installation: If you selected the second option, browse to the location of the downloaded driver and follow the on-screen instructions to manually install it.
   
7. Restart Your Computer: After the driver update is complete, it's a good idea to restart your computer to apply the changes fully.
   

 

Upgrading MS Basic Display Driver

Like many people, I'm unable to upgrade to Win 10 because the manufacturer of my video card has chosen not to upgrade the applicable driver.

So I'm warned that the Win 10 install would replace the current driver with the Microsoft Basic Display Driver, which I'm warned is a very, very basic driver with limited abilities that do not support:

• Display scaling control
• Multiple displays
• Display rotation
• Video capture
• Power settings
• VSync control
• Brightness control on integrated display panels
• AMD Catalyst™ Control Center

My machine is far from reaching its end of use lifecycle and is still working quickly and flawlessly with Win 7 Pro installed.

Are these limitations with the MBDD actually true?

What's the likelihood that MS will improve the MBDD to help fill the gap left by manufacturers and allow us to upgrade to Win 10 with a display driver which is more sophisticated than just the rudimentary basics?
