  2. Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center v3.0 will not install

    Hi Kem,

Thanks for submitting and letting us know.

Is there any word back about it yet?

Also, it seems like may be 3 distinct issues:

    1. Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard center installer needs a re-release by team for that

    2. Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 prerequisite package needs a fix for logic used to detect whether its been installed already or can be installed.

    3. Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 is missing from Microsoft Download Center (as other users have been pointing out in response to my linked to Visual Studio bug report, stating they also can't find it because of that)

Might it be possible to report as separate issues to the appropriate team for each? Since, with my bug report to the Visual Studio team for example, linked to again below, it's been "under investigation" for a long time without any response and they don't seem
like may be the ones to re-release that installer or update Microsoft Downloads Center.

And if was just reported to Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard center team, then none of the other larger impact issues would be resolved beyond that one installer.

My as of yet not responded to Visual Studio bug report for this:

Visual C++ 2017 Redist. (v14.0.23506.0) prevents install of VC++ 2015 Prereq. — Causing failed install of Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center v3.0.337, etc. - Developer Community

  3. Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center v3.0 will not install

    Hi Kem,

    Thanks for responding.

The issue doesn't relate to DirectX specifically.

It occurs whenever version v14.10.25008 *specifically* is installed on the system, preventing installers from installing newer versions of VC++ 2017 as a prerequisite.

I've submitted a bug report to the Visual C++ team as seen at the link below, but still haven't heard any response back:

Visual C++ 2017 Redist. (v14.0.23506.0) prevents install of VC++ 2015 Prereq. — Causing failed install of Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center v3.0.337, etc. - Developer Community

This issue has outstanding for nearly 2 months now, and seems to prevent successful install of any installer (whether for Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center, or any Microsoft or 3rd party product) which has any newer version of Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable
as a prerequisite, whenever v14.10.25008 is installed without any manually installed newer version to replace it.

As detailed in my bug report there, only removing Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable or upgrading it via manual install to Visual C++ Redistributable 2017 v14.10.25017.0 will allow installation of an .msi installer which has a version of VC++ 2017 Redist newer
    than v14.10.25017.0 as a prerequisite.

Others, including those responding here, have confirmed that the workaround for this issue is either removing that version of VC++ or manually upgrading it.

    ****** Details ******

I pinpointed the root cause and confirmed the workarounds after testing with 15+ different system configurations across several different PCs involving different combinations of VC++ Redist versions installed. Only upon either removing v14.10.25008 or manually
installing a newer version (doing so manually only, because install fails when its just included as a prereq).

With this issue, even recent installer builds which embed the newer VC++ 2017 Redist prerequisite into that .msi installer package (as is the case for Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center v3 installer) fail to install the VC++ 2017 prerequisite, and therefore
completely fail to install with an unhelpful error message and no clear way to workaround it - like is also still the case for the Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center v3 release.

Considering that Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center is proactively prompting everyone(even without opening up the Mouse & Keyboard Center app) with a notification to update to v3.0, a number of which then just end up with a failed install, I would think
this would be a priority issue for Microsoft, at least regarding Mouse & Keyboard Center , if not all the products and installers this issue affects.

    ****** What's Needed Now ******

    Kem,

Can you please bring this issue (the bug report linked to again below and the associated workarounds and proposed fixes detailed there) to the attention of the Microsoft Visual C++ development team for which that bug reported was posted, or whatever team
deals with msi installer prequisite package issues?

Can you also bring it to the attention of the Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center team so that they can release a fixed version of their V3 installer which works around the issue?

****** The Bug Report to Escalate for this Issue ******

Visual C++ 2017 Redist. (v14.0.23506.0) prevents install of VC++ 2015 Prereq. — Causing failed install of Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center v3.0.337, etc. - Developer Community
