    Microsoft caused and fixed a WSUS Synchronization issue that affected systems worldwide

    Reports about problems with WSUS Sync started to appear shortly after Microsoft released security updates for Windows systems earlier this week. Users flocked to sites like Reddit to vent their frustration and potentially find a solution for the issue.

    Windows Server Update Services Synchronization enables centralized management of Microsoft updates. It gives system administrators control over update deployment to Windows devices. In other words, it is an essential tool for keeping Windows devices up to date and installing the latest security updates on them.

    The default configuration has WSUS sync with the Microsoft Update server once a day. It downloads metadata from the server so that the latest available updates and changes are reflected on the administrator's side.

    The error log may show errors such as "A connection attempt failed" or "The operation has timed out" on affected systems. On sites like Reddit, administrators are asking questions like "Is anyone having synchronization issues with their WSUS server?".

    Microsoft has not publicly acknowledged the issue at this point, but users who openened a ticket with Microsoft received responses like the following one:

    We would like to inform you that we are currently investigating a synchronization issue affecting WSUS. Our internal teams have observed similar behavior across multiple environments, and we are actively working to find a resolution.

    While the exact cause is still under investigation, we are collaborating closely with our engineering teams to determine a resolution path.

    It claims that Microsoft is investigating the issue and working on an update that should resolve it. According to the same message, administrators may restore the functionality in the meantime by unchecking the "Updates" classification. The issue seems to be related to .NET Framework 3.5 related updates that were published this month with the "Updates" classification.

    Shortly thereafter, Microsoft confirmed that it resolved the issue. System administrators may access the information on the Microsoft Release Health website.

    Microsoft confirms that defective metadata caused WSUS servers to run a full synchronization all over the world, which put the servers under a lot of stress. This caused the servers to become unresponsive, which explains the timeout errors that some users received.

    Microsoft fixed the issue by expiring the update that caused the issue. Synchronization should be back to normal now.

  2. WSUS content folder & synchronization problem

    Hello brothers

    Actually, our WSUS content folder was full and that's why to reduce the size of the folder I tried the following steps and after that I am in a big trouble.

    1. Close any open WSUS consoles.

    2. Go to Administrative Tools – Services and STOP the Update Services service.

    3. In Windows Explorer browse to the WSUSContent folder (typically D:\WSUS\WSUSContent or C:\WSUS\WSUSContent)

    4. Delete ALL the files and folders in the WSUSContent folder.

    5. Go to Administrative Tools – Services and START the Update Services service.

    6. Open a command prompt and navigate to the folder: C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools.

    7. Run the command WSUSUtil.exe RESET.

    After all the above steps, our WSUS is not synchronizing and no updates are being downloaded at all. Every time showing "Reset Server Node"

    Please help me out as soon as possible.

    Thanks

  3. windows 10 update issues with wsus

    Firstly, as of October 31 2021 WSUS 3.0 Sp2 will no longer synchronize. What version of WSUS are you using?

    1. Open the WSUS console
    2. Click on your WSUS server name
    3. In the center you will see a section called "Overview."
    4. Within that area you will see "Connection"
    5. See "Server Version."

    What version are the clients? If they are 1809 they will not receive updates after May 2021 unless they are LTSC editions.

    I assume the computers are showing up in WSUS?

    Is this a new set up? Has it ever worked?

    In your products page in WSUS have you ticked Windows 10? If you are running 1809 LTSC have you ticked Windows 10 LTSB?

    There are some peculiarities with WSUS in May of 2021. You need to install the 2021-05 SSU on all PCs. Until you do no further patches will be detected. The synchronizations will complete successfully but will show 0 updates detected. If the SSU is not showing you can find it for your versions of windows on Microsoft Update Catalog;

    https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...stack%20update

    Can you please provide more information

    one drive sharing and receing issue

    Hello, Admin Vedalekha Professionals

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    This appears to be a known issue currently affecting OneDrive shared folders. Users from different regions have reported the same issue beginning approximately June 2024. We've summarized the main points of our current situation in this issue, you can review them at your convenience:

    1-> Impact Summary:

    Many customers worldwide have reported that their OneDrive shared folders have become inaccessible as regular file folders in File Explorer and instead appear as internet shortcuts. The reported issues include:

    • Shared Folder Visibility - Users can see shared folders in a web browser, but these folders appear as link files (.URL) in File Explorer, which open the OneDrive website rather than displaying the folder contents.
    • Synchronization Issues - Shared folders are not syncing properly with OneDrive on the desktop. Attempts to add these folders to "My Files" result in creating internet shortcuts instead of actual folders.
    • Access and Sync Problems - Users are unable to sync shared folders with their local devices, resulting in workflow disruptions and inability to access files offline.

    2-> Latest Update:

    This issue may be due to an internal error affecting data synchronization and handling within the OneDrive service. Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is actively working on a resolution.

    • Efforts are underway to restore proper access to affected shared folders. Initial steps include investigating the issue's root cause and implementing fixes to ensure shared folders appear correctly as file folders in File Explorer.
    • A comprehensive analysis is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the issue. Preliminary findings suggest a possible misconfiguration or recent update affecting shared folder handling and synchronization processes.

    3- > Current Status:

    • Some users have reported temporary workarounds, such as accessing shared folders directly via OneDrive web interface -<onedrive.live.com>
    • Microsoft internal engineers are closely monitoring the service and implementing fixes to ensure stability and proper synchronization of shared folders.

    We fully understand the inconvenience and disruption caused by this issue. Our team is actively addressing it and working hard to fix it as soon as possible. By June 1st, 2024, our community support has posted the bug reports on the feedback platform for internal use. We are committed to resolving this swiftly.

    Please let us know if you have any questions or need more help.
